What you don't see so much in the tip of the tremendous iceberg that Cindy Sheehan has thrown in front of the President's war cruiser is the long years of preparation, the weekly vigils in Tucson, the courses in history, the film festivals, the fund drives, the chores and newsletters that finally fuse enough people together that they can move in under Cindy Sheehan and make sure she stays afloat as long as it takes.

Even Underhill thought the scene looked pretty desolate when he passed through Crawford Sunday afternoon (was that just two days ago?) and saw this one lonely tent pitched against the Texas prairie. Although by that point Underhill knew that the Crawford Peace House had thrown open its doors and CodePink had mobilized its network, 'It didn't look too powerful.'

'But you know what?' says Underhill, pausing for a while at home between his support trips to Crawford. 'I think this has shaken the whole globe. I have a friend in Germany and he says it's on television there. This has blown wide open.' Tuesday morning campers watched ABC camera crews hang through the rain to get dawn shots for the evening news. Something about Cindy Sheehan is bringing out the poetry in everyone's imagination.

'And you know if we had anybody else out there, nobody would care,' he says. 'This is all about Cindy.' And Cindy is all about Casey (May 29 1979-April 4 2004). Not in his name, Mr. President. Not. In. His. Name.

2. Well, I'm sure that's true. A mother who has lost her child cannot be

accused of having any kind of agenda. What she is about is pain, terrible pain, cruel, crushing, unhealable pain. And that it was for nothing is more pain. And that no one is held accountable is yet more pain.

She speaks for all of us, though, who have seen our democracy smashed to bits, and are in pain for all who have died, American and Iraqi, all who are maimed, all who have been tortured, and all that we have lost, as a nation.

The amazing thing about Cindy Sheehan is that she--like Lily Lipscomb and the Jersey Girls--is able to transform her unbelievable pain into truth. Her love for her son radiates out to us all. It is so true. It shines with truth.

I love how she focuses on George Bush, personally. His responsibility. His decisions. His signatures. His name--that will be reviled by future generations, if our country and our planet survive his hideous rule. I don't think he's ever taken responsibility for anything. He glories in power over others; he giggles with it. And his handlers run interference; do his dirty work; prop him up; feed him his lines; fawn over him; fill him with delusions. It's time that this sick, distorted, shrunken little psyche be faced with some truth. And a mother who has had her own soul burned in the 9th Circle of George Bush's Hell is just the one to do it--not to harm him, but to move everyone in harm's way out of his path, and to help him face the consequences of his actions, for once.

It is such a beautiful thing. It is like a Greek drama.
