Let's form a Shadow Cabinet ourselves!!
In the UK, the opposition party establishes a Shadow Cabinet... although the posts are largely symbolic, the idea is intriguing....I say it's time the Democrats form one!
(Kerry and Edwards would of course be Shadow President and Vice President, respectively...)
MAKE YOUR OWN!
Shadow Sec. of State - Wes Clark
Shadow Sec. of Defense - Max Cleland
Shadow Attorney General - Elliot Spitzer

What would some of your choices be?

1. I think we should establish a whole shadow government.
It would be symbolic, of course, and not have power, but it might be amusing, if not down right revealing.

2. Well..
the shadow cabinet is ready to take office and assume the roles for real, in the event of a vote of no confidence in the Government, the dissolution of Parliament, and the calling of new elections. Since the American electoral system is a bit different (no recognised party leader who is the de facto candidate for the top spot, for instance, among other things) and we don't have the vote of no confidence, we have no shadow cabinet...(although I wouldn't so much mind if we abandoned our current system in favour of some version of the Westminster system).

3. pay attention to Senator Daniel Inouye (D-HI)
"There exists a shadowy government with its own Air Force, it's own Navy, its own fundraising mechanism, and the ability to pursue its own ideas of national interest, free from all checks and balances, and free from the law itself."

i.e. there are very, very big guns backing up whatever "shadow government" the neocon cabal is running. If Inouye's comments are accurate, an entire parallel military.

4. Heading into Star Wars territory here...
30 years after the destruction of the 2nd Death Star the galaxy was invaded by a race called the Yuzzahn Vong. The were pretty much like the Borg without the implants. They wanted to assimilate everything. The New Republics weak response lost them the core capitol world of Courusant. The leaders of the old Rebel Alliance re-formed as a shadow government and military called the Insiders.
You know I can't believe I'm such a freakin geek, but the truth is the world of Star Wars has so closely followed the path of current events that it is scary....
