I was going to drive over to Camp Casey this weekend, BUT...
Edited on Thu Aug-11-05 02:19 AM by Maddy McCall
all of the hotels in Waco are booked solid...or at least all of the hotels in which I would consider staying with my child, for the dates August 12-14. I will delay my trip for two days.

I guess that's good news. I remember that, during the KKK trial in Mississippi a couple of months ago, you couldn't find a hotel within a 50 mile radius of the courthouse. The media had booked the hotels.

Could it be that the media have booked all of the hotels in Waco because they are going to be there covering Cindy and CAmp Casey? I think it's very likely.

No rooms at either of the two best Westerns, Holiday Inn, Comfort Inn, or Quality Suites. Unless Waco has some huge event planned for this weekend, I would wager that the media have booked rooms in Waco (18 miles from Crawford) to cover Cindy.

Edited to clarify: there may be rooms available if you can afford expensive hotels or if you don't mind staying with your child in a Knights Inn or the equivalent.

2. Possible place for you
In one of my posts Pinkpantherchick posted:" I live about 50 miles from Crawford in Rowlett, a suburb east of Dallas. I will offer a place to stay, a meal or two and whatever else may help out if someone needs it. Anything within reason. Just ring my chime. "
You may want to check in with her......

4. I bet she's a super nice person...
but I hate imposing...I like hotels because my comings and goings won't disturb my host. I'll have my son and dog with me, so we will stay in a hotel. But maybe I can meet up with PPC. Sounds like a very nice person.

3. Media, yes, but not necessarily all for Crawford
The Little League regional playoffs is this weekend. Junior is scheduled to attend on Saturday. The winner advances to Williamsport.

I do think the media is also booking for Cindy's story, too, though!

11. I checked the websites of the hotels I listed above.
Edited on Thu Aug-11-05 02:09 AM by Maddy McCall
I'm not staying in a roach motel. I have a child and I want to stay where I will know that we will be safe. And I can't afford $120/night to stay at the expensive hotel.

I searched for August 12-14. The only reasonably priced places that are showing availabity are places like "Knight's Inn."

But thanks for providing that resource.

Best Western Mall has rooms next week, and that's when I will be going.

22. Your welcome.
I had that bookmarked because I wanted to go also. I talked my hubby into it to the point of surfing the hotels. Then he felt it was to far for us to travel. So I guess we will just attend the March in Sept. We live in MI so that would be much closer.

8. Damn those hotels in Waco being booked..
I live in Dallas...about a 2 + hour up the road.

Do not say you are not going to support Cindy 'cause the bloody hotels are booked!

Say you can't make it because the bbsitter is busy...or that the Firebird has a flat.

Sorry...bullshit story...rooms abound. If not in Waco, drive north. Many rooms. Of course the evil MEDIA booked rooms in WAco proper, awful people.

Damn them.

I guarantee you can find a place to sleep in a :30 min. drive..north...NBD...

12. So why are you sitting in the comfort of your house, typing on a computer
if you could be at Camp Casey tonight? It's only a two hour drive for you. You should be there RIGHT NOW, no excuses.

Wimp!

17. Wow! With fellow Duers like you, who needs Freepers?
Nice sympathetic and supportive post of a wonderful longtime Duer who clearly cares to want to go and doesn't know what to do....

Do you treat your friends like that or family? Do you tell them that what they are expressing is a "Bullshit story"? Or is that the only example you've ever been shown in your life and thus know no different?

I was taken aback by that attack. Can't believe that someone would attack me because I want to go but will delay my 12-hour trip for two days.

Amazing.

Edited on Thu Aug-11-05 02:57 AM by Pam-Moby
prepared for the trip. I wanted to go so bad to support Cindy. We would have had a 20 hour drive with 2 dogs, and a big bird and our child in a wheelchair. You are very kind to even consider driving for 12 hours in my opinion with a child. We can support Cindy in other was also. LIKE CONTACT THE MEDIA PEOPLE. That will help Cindy just as much. We will all meet up with her on the road in this boat and turn it around. So lets stop eating each other and get busy!
OK, now hit me in the head. Its 3:49 AM and I can not sleep-to worried what is happening in Crawford.

32. ???
:wtf: is wrong with you?

Those DUers who are not as familiar with the I-35 corridor may have a few questions about nearby lodgings. She's asked them. People have provided her with information.

Are you there right now? If not, then STFU. You have no moral high ground for insulting them. They're doing their best.

I will rent a room in Waco next week. It's a 12-hour drive for me. Can't believe that I was insulted in this thread because I'm going to delay my trip two days.

I really wish I could afford to take a small RV, but I can't.

...right now. I felt similarly insulted by a response to me in another thread. I'm not sure what it is.

Hey, if you were in my neck of the woods, I'd try to figure out a way to go with you and split the expenses. In any case, though, Cindy has my support from right where I sit. I'm sure she has yours, too.

And I will be there. I just won't be there Saturday and Sunday. It'll be Monday and Tuesday, or sometime close to that, instead.

But I will be there.

16. As I said above, in my OP, I was referring to places where I felt...
comfortable staying with my child and dog, and places that were affordable for me.

I did try to book at all of the sites of the hotels I listed above. No rooms were available. Try booking at the places I listed above, for August 12-14, and see if you can find any rooms. I couldn't.

26. sorry.
I was a bit concerned about folks like me reading too quickly and becoming discouraged.

I'd think you might have trouble in any location, given your needs--and that it wouldn't generally have to do with media bookings.

The Best Western in Waco allows pets and it's really reasonable. And after this weekend, it is showing vacancies. That's where we'll probably stay.

and has grown the last few years because there is an outlet mall there.

I'm pretty sure they have some hotels and motels too. You may want to try those.

You can try the towns of McGregor, Troy, Moody, Hewitt, Temple, Bellmead, Lorena, Woodway for a cheap B&B.

There is a Clarion and a Rodeway Inn in Waco.
