China and US coming to blows? This is a big story underreported
These bumbling right wing nuts are going to get us all killed yet. Foreign press is covering these nuclear threats as is Voice of America (which some consider a propaganda tool). Need to take all with a grain of salt...still...frightening...

Tancredo: "Stupid, Brazen, and Uncivilized"
by James Zogby
(Monday August 01 2005)
By even suggesting that Mecca could be bombed in retaliation for a terrorist attack, Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-CO) has made the world a more dangerous place. He is not alone, of course. Ironically, the Congressman has plenty of company among those who, either because of the evil they do or the stupid things they say, have endangered us all. ...Ironically, Tancredo said it best a week earlier when he condemned a similar threat from a Chinese general. In response to Major General Zhu Chenghu's threat to use nuclear weapons against the US should China be threatened, Tancredo responded, "For a senior government official to exhibit such tremendous stupidity by making such a brazen threat is hardly characteristic of a modern nation..."

War Is Not Far from Us and Is the Midwife of the Chinese Century
Leading CCP official argues for exterminating U.S. population
By Chi Haotian Aug 08, 2005

The following is a transcript of a speech believed to have been given by Mr. Chi Haotian, Minster of Defense and vice-chairman of China’s Central Military Commission. Independently verifying the authorship of the speech is not possible. It is worth reading because it is believed to set out the CCP’s strategy for the development of China. The speech argues for the necessity of China using biological warfare to depopulate the United States and prepare it for a future massive Chinese colonization. “The War Is Not Far from Us and Is the Midwife of the Chinese Century” was published on February 15, 2005 on www.peacehall.com and was published on www.boxun.com on April 23, 2005. This speech and a related speech, “The War Is Approaching Us” are analyzed in The Epoch Times original article “The CCP’s Last-ditch Gamble: Biological and Nuclear War.”

Here come the Chinese
And it's no long march
Ris Ronald Sanders

Over the last few months, there has been an obvious increase in tension between the US and China. A fortnight ago there was a heating-up of animosity on the military side, and a cooling-down on the economic side.

Taiwan: China General warns of N-attack if US intrudes
China's playing chicken
By Huang Jei-hsuan
Wednesday, Aug 03, 2005,Page 8
Major General Zhu Chenghu (¦¶¦¨ªê) of the People's Liberation Army declared on July 15 that China might use nuclear arms on "hundreds" of cities in the US, in case of a US intervention to deter Chinese aggression against Taiwan. And, reflecting the communist nation's resolve, China is prepared to lose all cities east of Xian, according to Zhu.

BEIJING, JULY 15: China should use nuclear weapons against the US if the American military intervenes in any conflict over Taiwan, a senior Chinese military official has said.

‘‘If the Americans draw their missiles and position-guided ammunition at the target zone on China’s territory, I think we will have to respond with nuclear weapons,’’ Major General Zhu Chenghu said at an official briefing.

1. We could not, and wouldn't win a war against China- not even with
Jaysus on our side. If they want Taiwan- they can have it..the most we can do is "condemn" in the UN. Taiwan is not part of the US, and is not worth bringing about the end of the USA as we know it to "save" them.

2. Agree. I haven't looked at the PNACers plan for Taiwan but
I would guess it has been identified as an important "stronghold." :eyes:

Anyone with a college education who has visited half a dozen countries is more qualified to develop foreign policy than these people.

7. China would have trouble invading Taiwan
If they could even do it. While China is rapidly modernizing their military, Taiwan's military already is modern (thanks to us) and China's pitiful navy would have to bring troops across the straits while the Taiwan air force was bombing them.

15. Your classic "no win" military nightmare.
Edited on Thu Aug-11-05 06:08 PM by Old and In the Way
China's missles are well within range of 250MM Chinese in their industrialized Southern/Coastal Provinces. They may not like each other, but I would find it hard to believe that China would initiate action against Taiwan. All downside...no upside. And vice-versa.

Now, would we ignite a war between Taiwan and China? Like a sub missle launch in the Taiwan Straits? 2 missles...one to China and 1 to Taiwan? Who knows what the neo-con nuts are capable of.

5. There is a get-China angle to much of what Bush is doing.
China had agreements with Iraq to develop two large oilfields (for which they would be the primary if not exclusive consumer). Then Bush invaded Iraq and voided those contracts. China then negotiated a similar deal with Iran (it's hurting for that oil) and now Bush is threatening Iran. Iran might soon face UN trade sanctions against its oil exports over this nuclear program issue, or possibly worse. Bush and his gang obviously would like to overthrow the government in Tehran, maybe even through invasion as in Iraq. China would certainly find its goals of oil exploration frustrated again, all contracts ripped up and the concessions awarded to American and other western firms.
It makes you wonder if at some point China is going to get its back up and start retaliating. As in, "Hands off Iran" or words to that effect.

6. Could be. Both Russia and China have made hard right
turns recently partly in response to US imperialism.

What scary times we live in.

8. China is just wearing us down long-term
there is no need to resort to biological or nuclear war. they already have our country by the 'nads as it is. Unlike the instant gratification of the US, Chinese leaders are patient and look long term... they see Chinese world leadership as inevitable as well, the rising sun. (yes, I know that is the symbol of the Japanese empire.)

China has their hawks that need to posture & act tough, just like our War President says "bring it on"

10. If the U.S. and China are preparing for war, why does Rumsfeld still
have a bizarre, freakish fetish with Iran and the Middle East? He can't stop fucking talking about it, meanwhile, the nation is going to war in the other direction.

you may also want to include reference to China decoupling it's currency from the dollar.

Right up there with Saddam wanting to trade oil in euro's.

Thanks for the thread
