Dating advice from James Dobson's daughter
She tells boys to stay away from those non-Christian girls who might tempt them to do bad things.

http://www.breakawaymag.com/Girls/A000000004.cfm

Suppose you have confirmed proof that a girl likes you. Not every female who's interested in you is someone you should be interested in. Before you spend too much time trying to attract a particular girl, it's important to find out whether she is a Christian. By choosing to date only Christian girls, you lesson the chance of compromising your principles.

Why does it matter? A girl without spiritual conviction can tempt you to go places you don't want to go or do things you know you shouldn't. As 1 Corinthians 15:33 says, “Do not be misled: ‘Bad company corrupts good character.' “ So watch out for the girl who struts around like a TV celebrity. You're too eager for a girlfriend if she can take advantage of you by getting you to do her homework, to keep giving her money or to lie or steal for her.

< snip >

From your perspective, superficiality (wearing too much makeup can be a warning), use of vulgar language and trend-following (looking like MTV fashion clones) are danger signs for you to avoid in a girl.

Jesus said, “By their fruit you will recognize them” (Matthew 7:20 ). That's not what they eat; it's how they act. If you're uncertain about a girl's spiritual condition, just watch for the clues. If she brags on herself, talks about money too much or mentions a wild party she just attended, it's time to move on. There could be rotten fruit on that tree.

dobson's daughter must be related to norman bates' bloodline.

35. Hehehe, yeah, her and my great grandfather were the type who
thought that you'd go to hell for dancing, wearing make-up, not going to church every week, thinking any impure thoughts, wearing your hair too long (or too short if you're a female), etc.

My mom used to crack us up doing an impersonation of my great grandfather . . .

"You can't wear makeup or you'll go to hell. Wear your skirt longer or you'll burn in hell. No dancin' that's the Devil's business. If you don't go to church you'll burn in hell. You can sleep with the neighbors wife as long as you don't get caught. If you get caught, you'll burn in hell."

She'd imitate him going off on one of his tirades then just subtly slip that "neighbor's wife" in at the end and we'd be in tears from laughing so hard :).

I think if you are too surpressed in life and aren't allowed to have fun then that's the case. When I was younger I went to a few girls only get togethers with the other girls in the youth group at my church. They weren't bad at all. Of course I didn't know them that well and don't know how they'd behave out on the town or at college. All the girls though now for the most part go to a Christian college (Freed Hardman or Limpscomb). Only a few small handful of us go to regular schools. Just from me watching all the other people who are Christians it seems that those who are really really big-time fundamentalist end up in that scenero. Partying and the like. If you're not tied down and you have pretty good parents who aren't strict then I think you'd be fine. My parents are Christians and raised my brother and I in a Christian home (and we're both Christians now and choose to be on our own)but our parents weren't strict or anything like that. They let me go out on Friday nights with my friends to the movie's and sleep-overs and things like that. I never had a crufew but I usually came home around 11pm est or so. The latest I ever came home was around 12:30am est and that was from a Halloween party a family friend through for the college group at our church.

38. Um . . . . *blush* I was one of those girls.
I was one of those Christian girls who would only date Christian guys, and my hubby and I tempted the heck out of each other when we were dating. ;)

Everything she says, though, should go the other way--if he's any of those things, she should run.

I'd like to add my own list as well:
-if she runs out of the room whenever anything about sex is mentioned, run like heck
-if she only wears "proper" clothes (long skirts, no make-up, long hair, full blouses), be prepared for either a minx or someone whose sexuality is so locked up it won't be a healthy relationship
-if she's a Christian Ed. major, she wants to marry a pastor, so move along
-get to know her friends, as they're the best at knowing what she's really like ;)
-if she's at the altar every single service, run like the wind, as she has many, many, many issues and will be trouble

Sorry . . . old Christian college training coming out :D

41. Oh brother
My mother dated guys when she was younger who I'm sure weren't Christian. :eyes: And how can you get someone to believe in your religion unless you go out into the world? I want to have a husband someday who shares my faith and can grow with me in my faith but if God leads me to a person who doesn't share my faith I can invite him to church with me and we can study together. If I fall in love with someone who isn't a Christian it might be for some greater purpose. How do you know God didn't send this person to you? It's all about personal responsibility. Too many times someone gets involved in something (like sex) and they don't take any responsibility but blame the other person. Of course if it's rape that's different but if it's consenuel and you agree to it then it takes two....

47. Geez, that's a hoot
Some of the wildest, most sexually active, kinkiest kids in high school were the good little Christians. Sure, they were at church all prim and proper on Sundays and Wednesday Bible Study, but the other five days of the week, oh my:blush:!

The main reason for this in my opinion is that they were such repressed people in their home life that they lost all control given half a chance.

Trouble is, the vast majority of those good little Christian kiddies, while wild as all get out, and fun for a night or two, were absolutely the wrong people to even consider for a serious relationship. Too much baggage, and then having to deal with their family on top of that, no thanks. Tried it one time, never ever again.

to religion in any form.

My daughter's friends are Christian and a few months ago had invited her to a youth group event where they went around helping out older people who couldn't do their yard work, ect. She went--then spent the entire time fending off the extremely aggressive attentions of one Churchy young man. She told him numerous times that she had a boyfriend and she wasn't interested but he would not stop bugging her or staring at her, even going so far as touching her (she smacked his hand). I told her that he is the perfect example of a future date rapist.

Then I told her to stay away from Christian boys.

57. I believe that too
I think that's the case too. Too many times parents don't let their teenagers live and go by their own standars and they usually know what they can and can not control. My parents were never strict on me and I grew up in a Christian home. Of course my parents weren't fundies. My dad is a deacon in the church and he even watches "R" movies and stuff. They let me go out on Friday nights and hang out with my friends. I usually was home around 11pm est but that was my choice. They never told me when I had to be home and I was able to stay over at a friends and things like that. One time my mom even let me skip school once. Most of my grade went on a school trip and I just decided to stay home and they let me. I was surprised personally. About a year or two ago a family friend at my church had a Halloween party for all of us college kids and my brother and I went and we stayed there till around 12:30am est and the family friend and his wife even let some of the group stay and camp out in their backyard. None of the Christian's I know and grew up with were that way either as far as I know of course. They all dated and had girlfriends and boyfriends and pretty serious relationships. One guy my brother knows dated a girl who wasn't a Christian but he invited her in the beginning to come to the Wednesday night services cause that's when the youth group meets and it's just fun and games based around a Biblical scripture and it's not so much pressure. She started coming with him all the time and even when they broke up! Now she's a regular at church and became baptized and a member and is pretty strong in her faith and a really sweet person. I'm not sure if anybody else in her family are Christians though. So you see what could happen when you go out into the world?
