There's always been an anti-war movement. |

The question is, When does the general public start to wake up and become disgusted with the killing? I remember that in the later years of the Vietnam war Nixon's insulation from the growing unpopularity of the war was finally broken when a member of the Ray Coniff Singers (probably the only remaining musical group "safe" enough for a private White House performance) suddenly held up a "Stop the War" sign as Tricky's wide grin froze into a grimace.
I'm wondering if Cindy Sheehan's campout at Bush's fake ranch is such a moment of shattered insulation. Much now depends upon the press corps; reporters 35 years ago were still operating in a competitive story-gathering environment, and there was something in it for them to find the truth. I'm not so sure about now.

1. Remove the insulation. |

There's always been an anti-war movement.
Ask the mainstream media why they didn't cover the largest anti-war protests in the history of the world and instead chose to support the drumbeats leading up to war. They supported killing and murder.

3. Make them look at it...daily...at dinner time....on the news. |
|
I was watching the Peter Jennings special last night on ABC. They came to a part about a show that he had done on the fighting in Bosnia...and he had focused the show on a severely injured little girl of about 3 and parents called up irritated that he had shown this footage during, "The dinner hour...". Jennings' response was that it was not right to sanitize the news.
RIP Peter.

4. The term "anti-war" bothers me |
|
Who isn't anti-war? On the other hand, isn't it necessary for countries to defend themselves, which at times involves war?
Calling Cindy and many others "anti-war" isn't accurate (although she's certainly anti-THIS war), and is part of the RW attempt to make them look like kooks sitting in a ditch with pie-in-the-sky, unrealistic dreams.
