Atrios posted it which seemed weird because I've never seen him post a music video before. I clicked out of curiosity and now I'm in tears. The song is 'Wake Me Up When September Ends'.

The song is great, but the video is incredible.

It's a young teenage couple professing their love for each other, obviously in the midwest, then they play a bit of the song, kinda slow song - nice melody - then the girlfriend loses her mind on the boy and screams how you could you do this...

he says I thought you of all people would be proud of me, next scene he's in bootcamp, then in Iraq, then there's a truck bomb... they show him one more time behind a rifle and her sitting alone on some bleachers.

Green Day is both of my 12 year old granddaughter's favorite group. A friend has a 13 year old granddaughter, they are her favorite group, too. When my own daughter was in her teens, it was Rush.

I thought my thread was a gonner...it dropped pretty fast after I posted it.

What I loved about this video was that it showed the impact of war from two perspectives - from the eyes of the soldier and the eyes of someone who loves the soldier. It didn't necessarily make a statement for or against the war, but spotlighted the human component (fear, anger, sadness, etc)...something that has been missing from MSM.

16. I've always like Green Day

but this album has just pushed them way over the top for me. They are now one of my favorites by far. I love thought provoking bands. Green Day is really maturing making some of the most intelligent and conscientious music around. Excellent video. It reminds me how much I hate that asshole * and all the chicken hawks sending those good boys and girls over there to Iraq just satisfy one of their dreams of "winning over" the world in the arrogant p.o.s. attitude.

Was the same thing I felt when Benjamin told me he enlisted. I lost 20 pounds in two months. I am 5-9 and now weigh 123. I have not been the same since October 2004. I will never be the same until this fucking travesty is over. In 20+ days Ben will be in the bowels of hell. Casey only lived 2 weeks over there. Oh My Fucking God. I'm so damn scared. And bawling again.

I'm a friend of KyndC.

My son is currently in his second week of Marine bootcamp in San Diego.

I'm trying to figure out what to say to you... in many ways, I have no words for how I feel about this whole thing with my son and others, like your son, who are facing their entrance into this hell. Every time I try to get to the point of words, I feel the tears well up and my throat constricting.

In many ways, I feel like I am still in shock from it all because it was like, one day he said he'd enlisted and the next week he was gone off to bootcamp. It isn't as if I didn't spend time talking to him, showing him websites and evidence of the lies of this administration, because I did. And there was nothing I could say or do to change his mind about going. I tried to get through to him, but he had his own mind made up about what he was going to do. Short of throwing myself in front of the bus he left in, there was nothing I could do to stop him.

At the same time, I am nose-to-the-grindstone working to support what Cindy Sheehan is doing. Working as an activist is what's getting me through this, day by day... and I know there are plenty of others with me in this, working to bring our troops home where they belong. Each day, my thoughts and all of my effort is dedicated to the moms and dads who, like me, are facing this hell our kids and our families are facing.

That's the thing, I know I'm not alone. And I just want you to know that you are not alone either.

If it is any small consolation, your bigger family at DU supports you and we hope that Ben will be back home to you quickly, with a signal that this nightmare war has ended. What Cindy is doing is working, we are seeing the changes slowly. She is getting the attention of everyday people.
