This is only the beginning....
The gathering at Camp Casey is the beginning of the new peace movement in America, in my opinion. America will never be the same after this and the Bush Administration will never be the same either. Who could have predicted such an unlikely catalyst as Cindy Sheehan?

But this is only the beginning. This is the first stage. The second stage that follows will be the call to withdraw our troops from that war. Even here on DU, one can see a consensus forming that we should pull out our troops immediately. That is the direction the new peace movement is headed, in my opinion.

Change is happening, no matter how hard they fight it or how much they deny it. This war was wrong and too many people have died already. The change is happening down in Camp Casey, in Crawford, Texas...

2. This is what the second coming
is all about.

Most people were raised to believe that Jesus would come to save us again. Don't hold your breath. Actually, the second coming is about each of us finding the christ that is already inside of us. This is just the beginning.

4. It can be the beginning if we
continue the fight. We have a great start. The follow-up should be in D.C in September....and then who knows.

5. Has that one woman been interviewed re: Camp Casey?
Y'know.. the woman from F9/11 who was prowar then against it? She was in the news a bit.. just can't remember her name.

That would really make news if she joined up there or made some statement of support.

6. Who would have thought
that the tipping point would be a single person making a spur of the moment decision to hold court outside the * Crawford compound during *'s vacation.

This shows how fragile *'s hold on power is right now.

We all need to support Cindy with all our efforts.

7. History works this way Kentuck
That is why the WaPo has reminded us of Rosa Parks, a very unlikely person as well

Most countries go through changes when a lighting rod appears, and the timing is right. Cindy is the lighting rod, and the time if FINALLY right.

We are also having other things coalescing. such as 600 truckers in Florida protesting high oil prices, and of course the Nurses in California.

Now what the elites must be fearing, if they are paying attention is the coalescing of all these movements into one... for we are all fighting the same monster

8. I don't think so. Give it a couple weeks and it will be forgotten.
I bet if you asked 10 people who Cindy was, at least 7 of them would have no idea.

Sorry, just my opinion.

11. I'll admit to being an idealist but I think you are wrong on this one...
It will not be forgotten as long as our troops are still being killed in Iraq. I don't see that ending in a couple of weeks?

13. There is not a consensus for immediate withdraw here on DU or in the
Dem Party at all.

Even ones here who support Cindy say withdraw right now is a bad idea even saw one poster say it was "stupid".

I happen to think its doable and not from an area of desperation but logic, take away the western/american presence and AL Queda in Iraq loses support almost immediately. The violent factions of the different culture based groups will start to go at eachother, but our replacements (I hope it'd be a Pan-Arab/ UN mix) will be able to deal with such a thing much better than we can quite simply because they aren't us.

I have been so disillusioned lately with ** and his klan getting away with everything. Cindy's story and her strength are so inspiring, and for the first time in years I am hopeful that change is coming. :-)

21. Yes, it's the beginning...
It's the beginning of a new direction. It's the start of a movement. Amazing how it can all start with one woman. Sheehan is very much like Susan B. Anthony and Rosa Parks. Women who made history and influenced other individuals. I'm sure Sheehan will one day be remembered as one of those women.

23. I was not pro-immediate withdraw until just this week
Edited on Thu Aug-11-05 11:28 PM by jsamuel
Iraq has gotten so bad, that nothing we do if we stay will help. For example, the mayor of Baghdad was just ousted and no one batted an eye. If we leave, at least we can let Iraq form its own version of a government. The one thing we HAVE TO WATCH OUT FOR is genocide or other types of racial or sexist problems developing.
