What the Repubs don't get about Cindy Sheehan.
When I hear some Repub standing in the RW echo chamber saying things like "Cindy Sheehan is a tool of the radical left" I am as disgusted as most other progressives.

You know what the problem is, right? The pundits and conservative bloggers are, in effect, little more than puppets of the regime, and can't really understand someone acting independent of outside controls. To them it's far more reasonable she's doing Michael Moore's bidding than coming up with this on her own...it has to be a part of an agenda because they can't live outside THEIR agenda...there are no personal choices--it's like the Communist Party in China or the former Soviet Union. The Party comes first. Loyalty to the Party and State above all.

Cindy is about people--all the people who stand in opposition to the war, and all those who actually feel something for those who have fallen. People like Michael Moore are following her, not the other way around. She's in the vanguard now, with the "professional" activists rushing to catch up.

I can understand their confusion. To them for whom authority is to be admired and emulated rather than questioned, the idea of someone stepping outside some form of authority and acting on their own is unthinkable.

3. She had a good response
When asked by a right wing interviewer whether she was being used by the left anti-war movement, she said "There's absolutely nothing wrong with being part of the anti war movement."

Breathtaking simplicity.

7. Very good point...
also missed a lot of the time.

Anti-illegal war. Not necessarily anti-war in general.

A war against obvious aggressors is one thing. This war is something else entirely.

from another political forum.
"AUDIO: Cindy Sheehan Caught On Conference Call Strategizing With Radical Left
The duplicitous, devious Ms. Sheehan caught on tape. Your 15 minutes of fame is over now, Cindy! Goodbye." (the guys link didn't work but it was a phone call - for the public- about support-from the Joe Trippi -blog I guess.

I responded with;
She talks with her supporters {BTW being to the left of the BushInc. is NOT being from the far left). Many folks that support Cindy are not from the far left.
Of course she is stragedizing - it has been raining buckets for 3 days, they are sitting in a ditch, - and they are facing arrest. Truely I think they need a little strategy to survive this ordeal. About time to make some plans, I would imagine.
I think it is awesome that she and a small group did just take off down there on an impulse, based on Bush's politicizing the recently killed soldiers and glorifying his ignoble, unjust war.
But at this point it is awesome all the support she is getting- and they aren't just supporting her. They are supporting OUR troops and their families.
BTW she is discussed on so many forums on CARE2 as well -in a positve way -and ont the above forums she is getting tons of support as well- we link all the petitions and info.

4. They parrot the false dichotomy of "supporting the troops"
or supporting Cindy...

These knuckleheads just hear what they want to hear. They are the enemy, not Iraqis, not insurgents, not terrorists, not North Koreans.

10. Exactly
As I've heard Rhandi said democrats are born leaders. I don't know what political party Cindy affiliates with but she seems like a born leader. She showed that by just getting up and going. She had nobody to tell her and she had nobody who helped her organize or whatever. She just got in her vehicle and drove. Other people came to her. That's what happens with a leader. Someone who is independent and can think on their own. I think it's really quite pathetic how the republicans all have talking points and can't do anything without having a speech prepared for them by someone else.

12. Leading by doing
rather than leading by trying to lead.

Cindy is turning her son's death into something noble after all. Not for this regime, but for the American and Iraqi people. One sacrifice too many.

Good for her.

16. Cindy has the "Moral Authority"...they don't get it & can't handle it
Bush has none...

Meanwhile as the right tries to smear Cindy Sheehan and put labels on her, what they are doing is attacking a mother of a fallen soldier, an American, and someone who has more courage in her pinky nail than the entire Bush Cabal and its supporters...

11. I'm bored with the echo chamber
All it is is a kaleidoscope of spurious arguments supplied for the consumption of people who would rather not think for themselves.

"Cindy Sheehan's motivations are questionable."
What could they be other than what she plainly states? Get out of Iraq, hold the liars accountable.

"This isn't about her son, this is about her political agenda."
No shit? Her son is dead and her agenda is to wake up those that are still sleeping at the switch, and figure "staying the course" sounds pretty good.

"Casey's Godmother and other relatives are pro-war."
Wow, a family split on the Iraq war. Who could have imagined?!?!

15. If there ain't money or fame in it, the rethugs just don't get it.
They can't comprehend a woman like Cindy who has more integrity in her little pinky than any of them will ever have in their entire lifetime.

In Cindys interview with Will Pitt she talked about the integrity that her son Casey also had and it was clear that all that really matters to her is:

TO DO THE RIGHT THING. PERIOD.

Rethugs don't understand that because for them it's all about the fame, and the money, the moolah, the dinero, the coin. :puke:

some of these BUSH TOOLS, AKA anyone against Cindy, but especially some of these interviews. Like the hosts and interviewers on the right were explaining to a six year old what two and two is. So it's funny to see the moms and dads being interviewed succinctly rip them a new one.

22. Oh they get it all right.
They understand she is a HUGE threat, which is exactly why they try to lump her in with these so-called "extremist" groups.

Problem is, these radical leftists they talk about are actually our moms, dads, sisters, brothers, neighbors, co-workers and so on...

Don't let them fool you. The "radical left" isn't radical at all. It's the majority of the American people.

24. What strikes me as particularly offensive
about the right wing smear machine is how they associate the desire for peace and the need to save our soldiers' lives with being unAmerican. It also makes me angry to hear Cindy Sheehan called a liberal tool. The fact is, Cindy parked her tent first. Democrats recognized a brave person and gravitated to her.

25. Mythsaje, You have definately hit on something.
I find that I am bored to death by their yapping. They have nothing original to say, just the continual yapping phrases over and over. Others have told me they feel the same about the RW's. To me their words have become meaningless and that is a real relief. I can concentrate on doing my work more effectively and not wasting my energy listening to them.I feel we are on an upswing. To borrow Bab's famous phrase,"Why should I waste my beautiful mind" on their yapping?

But make sure they get no armor, no health care, no home visits, nada!

Their attacks on Cindy just prove what I have always suspected about them (not all Republicans, just the ones who support this President), they don't was democracy here or anywhere else. What they want is other people dying to keep their myth going.

Sure the media doesn't get the message, and they're going to try and confound it, but why aren't we countering it with a clear message ON THE WEB.

Cindy has a great message- but the crawford peace house doesn't have her message up. meetwithcindy.org has nothing to explain the message.

Millions of people blissfully unaware Americans are seeing this story, and meetwithcindy.org (imho should be standwithcindy.org) has nothing to clarify the Repubs confusion. Why not?

**********

in fact- the mission they have up is NOT what she said- from meetwithcindy.org:
"Our mission is to persuade President Bush to meet with Cindy Sheehan and answer her questions about why the war that took her son's life was started and why it is being continued."

Cindy's quote: ""Our true mission is to bring attention to the occupation of Iraq and bringing our troops home."
*******

I'm not trying to be rude or abrasive- i'm merely suggesting that time is critical, and we should be using this time to enlighten the American public... when a curious American goes to meetwithcindy.org - do they learn anything, do they change their mind? .... or if they already know, are they motivated to come to crawford?

again- not trying to rude or arrogant, it's just my honest opinion and there's no time to beat around the bush.... what percent of people are 'turned' by
http://www.meetwithcindy.org ?

sure i can make my own site for Cindy, and i did
http://www.benfrank.net/crawford

but it's meetwithcindy.org that's getting the press- i'd like to offer my work to them, to help frame the message into something easy to read and understand for all those 'don't have the time' Americans. Can someone in Crawford take this message to Cindy?
