Republicans Kick Ass. Democrats Whine. Tell Me I'm Wrong |
|
tell me republicans don't kick ass, just try. i have two eyes, i can see that they really, truly kick ass. and democrats have excelled at standing around whining and slack jawed in amazement at the republican's every victory, tell me otherwise, i dare ya.
democrats write their congressmen, democrats go for the middle of the road, democrats appease and get along, and republicans kick ass.
democrats make little slip ups and republicans impeach them. bush goes to war just cause he wants to and democrats give him a pass and support his wars. democrats try to be reasonable and logical and fair minded and just, and republicans kick ass.
how can we change this ridiculous trend?

3. They lie, smear and obsufucate. |
|
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Democrats tell the truth. The real Democrats who do not whine, and who constantly kick ass should be the ones constantly leading this party.
Paul Hackett, Howard Dean, John Conyers and so on should be the only face of this party. The Senate is largely a whining committee and marginal. It has Harry Reid but is largely devoid of real vigor.
That's why it should be crucial for everyone to endorse real candidates, to every single office who fight and fight hard. Replicate the tenacity you see in Paul Hackett, and everyone will line up in droves instead of ignore.

5. Dems can get no traction |
|
and that's because as Ann Coulter clearly stated "We (meaning the Republicans) have the media."
The Republicans pile outrage upon outrage and scandal upon scandal and most of America knows very little about it. Every single member of the Congress and Senate should be responsible for writing a weekly column that could be distributed among the newspapers in their home state where they tell their constituents the truth of how their country is being taken from them. (The thing that fries me the most currently is this administration blithely ignoring things like court orders for photos and Senate requests for information they are clearly entitled to. How about consciously withholding the true actuarial analysis of Medicare and threatening the civil servant who was asked for the info?)
Dems have to more effectively utilize whatever public venues are available to them. They should go on CSpan and talk radio and every talking head show they can get themselves booked on. And then they should take a lesson from Hackett and throw out the concept of being "nuanced". Speak in simple declarative sentences. Don't be conciliatory. Don't preface things with "perhaps I'm wrong, but . . ."
They need to learn the hard lesson in debates that you can't be rational with an irrational person. Speak directly to the American people - most of whom are still rational although they are uninformed.

9. Well said, with some great, practical suggestions. |

 :)
I totally agree that Dems have to realize, when they're on TV or on the radio, that they're not speaking to the republi-bot on the set with them. Their words have to be aimed at the viewers and listeners, and that means -- just as you've noted -- speaking in plain, direct language.
It also means staying on message, not getting knocked about responding to each and every nonsense-bomb the repukes like to toss out. Control the discussion! Go in with a talking point or two you want to get out, and keep pushing it. No need to be shrill, no need to make up lies and distortions like the pukes do. Just embrace a few simple truths and explain the Dem point of view in a straightforward way anyone can understand.
