Obstructionism in the Senate
Edited on Fri Aug-12-05 10:55 AM by ck4829
"The Senate Judiciary Committee failed to hold a single confirmation hearing during the first quarter of XXXX, adding to a backlog that has particularly hurt women and minority court nominees, according to a XXXX analysis released Wednesday.

Of the ten candidates whose nominations have been delayed the longest, seven are women or minorities. One nominee, XXXXXXX XXXX, was nominated to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in January of XXXX. The committee actually heard and approved his nomination in XXXX; after President XXXX renominated him this year, however, it has failed to act.

The XXXX analysis compared the Senate Judiciary Committee's record during the first quarter of XXXX with the first quarter of this year. It found that last year, the committee held five hearings from January through March of XXXX and approved 13 nominations during that period. Four additional nominees were approved on April 2, XXXX, at the very beginning of the second quarter.

In contrast, the committee did not hold a single hearing during the first quarter of this year. It did approve two nominees this year who received hearings in XXXX and were renominated this year by President XXXX, but took no action on 10 other candidates renominated by the President."

I knew it, those Godless Liberals were obstructing the President.

Hey, wait a second, maybe we need to check the truth out.
