Oil companies' worst nightmare!
Edited on Fri Aug-12-05 04:03 PM by jsamuel
They have preempted the worlds short supply on oil by raising demand while keeping the supply low (refining less). In this way, the prices sky rocket, while they elongate the time they will have before we have to switch to alternative energies. The war in Iraq and a war in Iran would considerably increase (by more than 100%) the amount of oil American companies could stockpile.

Why would they do all this?
Because they know that it was going to happen in the future anyway when prices got too high and people would be forced to move to other sources very quickly. However, by doing it now, they can make HUGE profits off of the law of supply and demand.

Their worst nightmare would be for us to do what we would do if this was happening and we really were low in supply. We would switch to other technologies or if those weren't available (as they aren't right now), we would CREATE THE ENVIRONMENT THAT AMERICANS WILL NOT TAKE THESE PRICES ANY MORE!!!
We need to follow Sheehan's lead and apply the same sort of real people protests by the American people over gas. WE ARE PISSED AND EVERYONE KNOWS IT! But we have to express our anger properly.

Possible gas protests/strikes:

2. Supply is low because production is basically at the limit...
There's not much spare capacity left.

to open new refineries they are shutting some down though. This is on purpose. People in business know this, because that's what businesses do, they expand when the demand calls for it. But they aren't...

11. Crude oil has not been refined yet...
When I say there's not much spare capacity left I'm basically talking about oil producing countries... sure, refineries have to do too, but the main problem is that oil isn't pumped out of the Earth fast enough.

5. Its time to call for a Windfall Profits Tax on oil companies !
If I recall this was a great populist cry during the price-gouging days of the seventies.

Where are our leaders?

Not much can be done. You can't eat or pay rent without passing on profits to the bloody oil barons.
