Anybody else notice the labelling changes on meat at groceries?

I usually go to the only "upscale" grocery in town because they have the organic and ethnic food items I like.

But about a month ago I noticed "Laura's Beef" (which is a company that does not use steroids, antibiotics, etc. on their animals) labels were gone. Then I noticed "Angus" labels were gone. But the grocer prints "Angus" on the beef that is higher priced (but no logo).

Chicken too. No longer does it say "Tyson" or "Southern Farms" or ANYTHING. It is just generically packaged as "chicken" with weight, etc.

I also noticed this in a large city recently on a trip to another state.

Is this some Corporate ploy? If it doesn't say "Tyson" on the label and I get sick...who do I sue?

4. well i shop downscale stores, our meat is still labeled

i still see tyson, southern hens, sanderson farms etc. on the labels just fine

i do check labels, some producers add a lot of water to pad weight of chicken, sanderson farms doesn't

5. Be CAREFUL...

a common 'trick" is to repackage as meat approaches the "sell by" date..ESPECIALLY chicken..

Zacky/Tysons etc packaged chicken has a sell by date on the package, and if someone goofs and orders too much, the stores sometimes just open the packaging, toss it and REpackage with their own labels, and a "new" sell-by date..

same goes for the other meats.. Ages ago,EVERY store used to have a section in the meat counter with "marked down" soon-to-expire meats..still good, especially if frozen at home.. Don't see those areas much anymore...

Stores do not want to lose any money by reducing prices..

That "24 hour bug"..was probably food poisoning from some bad meat.

But no, it is not "some" of the meat - there's always the cheap meat bin area where a lot of folks go, unfortunately ...IT IS ALL OF THE MEAT!

Dammit, I know Brunos is in bankruptcy status and they installed those "check yourself out" machines this summer so YOU the customer can scan your own food and bag it and I wondered if they were trying to get rid of the cashiers.

I also see this "non-labeling" in my closest grocer, not Brunos.

HELP! WHAT RECOURSE DO I HAVE? WHO DO I CONTACT?

Seriously folks, does anyone know who I would call in this situation? Where do I start? I now recall throwing away bad-dated beef last week. Yikes, now I'm gonna go vegetarian completely.

I shop at a mom & pop grocery store that cuts and packages all their own meat & chicken (they literally have sides of beef hanging in a refrigerated room). All the meat has plain packaging. But I'll keep my eyes open next time I go to a Kroger's store or other chain. I don't want any expired meat.

13. It's always best to buy the marked prepackaged chicken

and SAVE the label part with the numbers..just in case.. At least that way they can track down a particular plant that packaged it, in case someone DOES get sick..

Grocery stores that "mix it up" have NO way of knowing for sure where any of it comes from..

The ones cooked with the skin are better tasting and more moist.. I will remove the skin after cooking, thank you..

I really really hate it, that food, especially meat products are becoming "generic."

If the fuckers like Tyson don't have their name on the product, they probably can't be held libel for the next meat-borne illness outbreak.

I shop this store, it's mostly organic foods and meats are all 100% certified organic. I live in Washington State.

19. NO I DO NOT.

There's a great health food store that sells SOME good frozen products...but not much meat, and no fresh produce. But I'm a CSA member so I get my organic produce from great local farmers (except we are in a recess here until end of Sept.).
