My encounter with local freeper
so here I am taking care package for a troop in Afghanistan. This time we know the kid, he is the nephew of a friend of ours, who is a tad misguided but that will not stop me from putting a care package for the kid... (and before you say it, uncle has not kept us with news, and he already served, ten years USMC)

Anyhow I bring this bag of stuff to the UPS Office and tell them, FPO can I get the Customs Dec Form?

Lady in her twenties turns and looks at what is in that bag, from the usual candy, to a DnD core book, to toilet paper and toothpaste and... foot powder... so she says, "why send them toilet paper, I am sure the military is providing them this."

"no Ma'am they are not, the supply chain is quite broken."

"So where is that going to?"

"Afghanistan."

"Can you be more specific?"

"Nope, OpSec, I have no clearance exactly where his unit is at."

"So they don't have toilet paper, this must be the liberal press. I've heard otherwise."

"From people you know in the service?" MY BS meter was going off the scale at that point.

"No from World Net daily, you know the real press."

I smiled, took out my DoD card and told her... "well I guess Submarine Squadron Seen lied to us then when they requested these kinds of supplies last year before my husband retired as a USN Chief... and I guess the Army and the Marine Corp support groups are also getting mis informed by no less the Department of Defense." I smiled wickedly at that moment. "exactly what Main Stream Paper has covered the problems with the supply Chain by the way, because I owe the editor a pat on the back for covering a real story nobody is covering and has not covered since this whole mess started."

"Well if you say so."

She had this lovely American Flag pin, with a lovely yellow ribbon on it... I smiled wickedly, "by the way you are in your twenties, want to REALLY support the troops, either join them. Don't give me that BS that this is not for your type, or you have other priorities... oh and I also did my time... then again you COULD start demanding that the privatized and fully stealing Halliburton Supply Chain actually feed the troops, provide them with essentials et al. That way I will only have to send oh I don't know, games, candy and Reading material. by the way, have you sent a care package to any troop?"

She chose not to answer, turned away and walked out of the store in a huff... the manager said, that usually they can tell who speaks the truth, for any care package their type sends includes bibles, not ahem, essentials.

Quite honestly I think they are starting to feel the heat.

4. Am I the only one who wants to impale them on their stupid
freaking pins and magnets?

How about a yellow ribbon right through the eyeball, lady?

Or a fish magnet hanging out your a**?

Lord, how in the name of all that's decent do these freaking fools think that buying a piece of crap magnet or pin made by some underage child in a third world country is going to help anyone but some fat middle-aged stockholder!!!!!!!

11. There's an enlistment office about 3 miles from my home
I think I'll stop by tomorrow during my Saturday morning errands, and pick up a few.

That is a great way to defuse their "support" speeches.

Thanks so much for the tip.

And thanks for your families service to our country.

shoot I usually just google and print, as to the recruiters, find a local office and get some of their cards, they will apreciate it, if one of these folks actually helps them make their quota... not that they will call but shoot some folks with lots of money actually do serve, rarely, but they do

was developed to identify people who had a family member over there, tie a yellow ribbon around the oak tree.

When I see them, I look. If they have DOD stickers I smile, if they don't, well them enlistment forms are left on the windshield these days

will ask for permision and see if I can share...

In fact this kid was reluctant to give it to his uncle, family issues, a nice opera, but that is a whole different matter.

Otherwise, ask locally, who knows if you live near a base... yuo may be able to talk a family into adopting them...

22. I am the daughter of a mail man.
Here's your next step. Call her postmaster. Demand that she be reprimanded for instigating a political discussion with you. (Mail personnel are expected to refrain from partisan political expressions--they can't have partisan stickers--not even on their personal vehicles that they use to deliver mail (rural carriers)-- and they are not supposed to politically engage clientelle while on the clock.)

Should you get no satisfaction from the postmaster, ask for the contact information for his or her superior. Call that superior--probably a district superintendent--and tell him or her what happened and that you will be using USPS service to mail him or her a formal complaint. Ask if you need any particular forms (you do) to file that complaint, and ask where to get the forms.

Follow through on this. I promise that you won't be sorry.

And thanks for sharing it!

I think that it's a crime that these men and women are scrounging for basic supplies, let alone the armor issue... I wonder if the Army hadn't 'outsourced' supply jobs if things would have been better for these soldiers... I honestly can't believe that Halliburton is doing a better job!

I heard horror stories from my uncles about WWII and Nam, but I sincerely worry that our guys are going to get stuck in a majorly f'd up situation, like Khe Sanh or Tet... The mayor of Baghdad was ousted this week, and there was little talk about it in the press... things are bad in Iraq...

And yes things were FU in WW II... but we also had Truman go around preventing the kind of graft we are seeing now. Hell Willis Jeeps went out of bidness because they ran an honest bidness... and did not overcharge.

As to things getting bad, they are bad, and I expect them to get even worst, and no I don't expect the stenography corp to even cover a tet sized event or wost, not prudent you know... would not be prudent.

That's one of the arguments my 12 year old son uses when one of his friend's starts talking about Democrats not supporting the troops. He asks them how many care packages they have sent to Iraq and tells them we have sent many. It shuts them up and embarrasses the hell out of them because, of course, their freeper parents would never think to do something like that...it's considered CARING....which is NOT a freeper virtue.
