I have two sons, eleven and eight. The oldest has a few medical issues that would probably prevent him from joining the military, but even if he didn't, I would do everything in my power to dissuade him from ever doing so.
Not because I revile the service, or hold anything against the men and women in uniform, but because it's terribly dangerous to put oneself into a circumstance where they can be sent into danger at the whim of deluded, greedy, or sociopathic "leaders."
I stronly oppose any return to the draft...my wife and I debate this all the time. She's in favor (which strikes me as weird, since it's so opposite most Libertarian thought) and I'm vehemently opposed. Like I said to her a couple of weeks ago. It's one thing to give up some of your civil rights (like freedom of speech, for example) voluntarily--it's quite another to have them taken from you under threat of force.

2. The draft creates a more egalitarian military |
|
Might change people's minds when they, or their kids, could be sent 'over there', rather than depending on other people to volunteer -- generally people who don't have many other options.
Though I still oppose it.

It's funny that you bring this up. I have a 17 year old son that already has received a phone call from a recruiter. They want our sons and they are not going to get mine for their greedy war.

9. The recruiters continuously call |
|
for my friend's daughter. They are obnoxious and rude. They started to call when she was a junior in high school. They just called last week and she graduated in June. My friend has screamed, yelled, swore and told them that no child of hers was going to give her blood so that B*SH and his partners in crime can get rich on that oil!! They do not care about our children. As soon as my daughter gets to high school, I will be asking them to remove her name from the recruiters lists. Very sneaky putting that in the No Child Left Behind B.S. and I know it is B.S. because my oldest daughter is a teacher.

I would like to get my children off there list. I also have a 16 year old daughter. It's funny to they do not watch to much of whats going on and they have no interest in joining this crazy war.

of being on the list of recruiter's I am on a schoolboard and our curriculum asst. supt just put together a form that allows you to have your child's information kept from the military but have their info put in the yearbook etc. Make sure you request a form from the high school administration or go to Mother's against the Draft website and they will help direct you.

Just because were born in this country doesn't mean we are owned by any insane ideology that comes along. I see how this one came to be, because most of us were asleep. Not any more. but its going to be tough getting this crap out our eyes.

Canada is definitely a consideration. As things stand now I'm just a grunt and not really eligible for emigration.
When Canada passed gay marriage and stated that it highlighted "Canadian Values," I practically stood up and cheered. Like I joked here on DU at the time...I must be "Mentally Canadian."

|
Said if there's a draft, she can either help me get out of this country or prepare for me going to prison. I'd rather become Bubba's bitch than *'s.

Cause the majority of Americans are not affected by this war, draft half a million men, send them over and get the shit done right and over with instead of this stay the course bullshit. If a million families are affected by this war, it will turn more people against the asswipe Neocons. The only bad thing, the same Neocons would now have the raw meat for their invasion of Iran.

Iraq isn't the end of the line, it's the beginning.
We wouldn't be building so many large, permanent military installations if there had ever been plans to leave the Middle East.
