Gas wars here ($1.97/gal) are getting interesting |
|
People have been lined up all day--there are police officers directing traffic at the stations that are warring. A TV station in Shreveport was here earlier filming it--so I will post pics as soon as they put it on their website. Wondering how long it is going to last--must be people driving in from other towns today getting gas for their to be so much traffic. The station across the street from my house lowered their price yesterday to $2.03/gallon--however, at sunset last night he pulled the price down and put it back to $2.15/gallon this am.

Northeast Texas. A friend was contemplating how they could save and store gas--only way I could think was to buy a bunch of gas cans, however, the price of the gas cans would defeat the purpose. I am expecting a quick end to this now that someone other than the local media has picked it up. Another friend who doesn't like the people that own the station on the right side--have bought their gas from them because someone else told them that these guys are losing .20 a gallon on every gallon because of this war, and they wanted them to lose money, lol. Gotta love a small town.

FWIW, this isn't a great idea unless you have a specially built storage system, which really would make the cost not worth the savings.
Gasoline degrades over time. It'll still burn, but less efficiently, creating more pollution and lower mileage for your vehicle, not to mention the actual damage it can do to the engine. It is also a bit of a hazard that might invalidate a person's home insurance.

11. No, but many stations allow patrons to pre-buy gasoline |
|
Usually these are for the farmers. Take out a contract for X gallons of gas you pre-pay at today's rate that you can use over a 6 month period or longer. You can save money by hedging gas. It may cost more at the start but can be cheaper in the long run.

8. I wanted to get some pics--however |
|
since the Shreveport station was out there and cops were directing traffic through the pumps--it's very difficult to get close enough. I figure I will just post it here when they run their news story, lol.

13. Today I filled an 8 gallon tank with 8.3 gallons of gas |
|
I have a vintage Saab model 96 with an 8-gallon gas tank capacity. I was running rather low and filled up the tank at my neighborhood gas station. Strange that the pump registered that it sold me 8.3 gallons of gas. I've heard of this tweaking of the gas pump by disreputable stations, where the pumps register selling you more gas than you actually bought. If any stations are involved in gas wars, with shrinking profit margins, I wouldn't put it past some of them to run this kind of scam.
