Dispute everything they say:
If they say day, you say night. If they say war, you say peace. If they say the economy is doing great, you say the economy sucks. If they say Bush is an honorable and Christian man, you say he is a lying, deceiving asshole. If they say he has brought freedom to 50 million people in the Middle East, you say he has brought death and destruction and war to the Middle East. If they say it's not about oil, you say it's about that black shit under the sand.....etc..etc

1. Exactly
If you want to be an opposition party then you better damn well oppose them at every turn.

2. Way ahead of you.
I've been doing that since Jan 21st. 2001.:hi:

Never take anything they say for granted. If they say they care about America, it's only an America where only right wing, and mostly white fascist Republicans exist.

an oppostion party is one that OPPOSES!!

of course many dems are on the take and just as guilty as many repubs.
we have our own tom delays, just not as publicly identified.

6. If they say 2 + 2 = 4...
...then what?

Or, for the second TV generation: "Duck Season, Rabbit Season, Rabbit Season, Duck Season..."

Behaving predictably can paint us into corners, especially when hit with an issue like immigration where there are no clear answers.

A political party cannot attract enough support merely through "opposition." More is needed.

I prefer -- when they lie, call them on it. When they tell the truth, try to get them to admit to the consequences or nuances of that truth.

8. Too nuanced....
If they say 2 + 2 =4 , then we say that 1800 + 40 = Bush and Republican lies. If they say there are no clear answers on immigration, we say, "who in the hell is supposed to be in charge?" I say dispute everything they say...

9. Pot is addictive & dangerous drug and has no medical value
Edited on Sat Aug-13-05 10:38 PM by firefox
Prison, seizure, and fines will save them from themselves. You think I am supposed to drink (koolaide)to that?

Lies to government are just a tool. They lie continuously and know they can convince people if dissent is held down. Even the fascists know that the dissenting view of the truth cannot be pushed back. They just have to see if their power structure can hold and they can keep control of Congress, which they have reason to have some confidence in.

Everything is truly Orwellian. Day is night. Round is square. Up is down. War is peace. Occupy until free. Increased spending is a tax cut if you provide financing. Higher gas prices is conservation policy. A puppet is not a puppet. Representing the wealthy is representing the American people. Privatizing social security only removes the social and the security from an otherwise great reform. Vacations are hard work. Illegal war is a noble cause. Worst president ever knows best. Controlled media is liberal. Bush is a conservative. Bush is compassionate. Bush is leader of the free world. Greatest blunder ever only needs more effort. "I swear to protect and defend the Constitution" is an oath. Pretzels can be lethal. "The state of our Union is strong" and can only be better if gays can't union.

10. The thirst for power is more addictive than pot.....
and much more dangerous. I'm beginning to think simple disputations are the best way to counter these propagandists. If they say the "state of the union is strong", we say the state of the union is in disarray and on the threshhold of cracking under the pressure of the lies and deceptions. Just as Cindy Sheehan asked about the war: "What is noble about this war, Mr Bush?" Privatizing Social Security would be a disaster for our elderly and our country - it is an insane idea.

12. I think Democrats need to learn how to argue again....
Nothing blows an opponent off stride as much as simply disputing what they say, when they expect you to agree with them. Republicans make it easy. Unfortunately, Democrats have been too quick to agree, with leaders such as Lieberman, Ben Nelson, and others, who go out of their way to agree with the war, taxes, SC nominees, or whatever. They make it too easy for the Repubs.

13. Well you don't have to worry about me.
One of my friends told me recently, "You love to bludgeon people with that hammer of logic."

You are right about the democrats though. They miss too many good opportunities.
