Just who IS Larry Mattlage? (in re shots fired at Camp Casey)
Edited on Sun Aug-14-05 12:12 PM by Citizen Jane
Interesting things pop up when you google this guy...

<snip>
"Mr. Bradford is rather proud to have a president in the neighborhood. But Larry Mattlage, who permits NBC to use his 90-acre spread, is somewhat resentful of Mr. Bush's presence.

"It sort of messed up a nice quiet neighborhood," he said. "When he's here, you get a lot of traffic and a lot of people and a lot of airplanes and a lot of security and a lot of things we didn't have here in the beginning."

Neither Mr. Mattlage nor Mr. Bradford would say how much he is paid for the use of his property, though Mr. Mattlage called it small recompense for the hassle of living next to a president.

"I figured, 'Well, if you've got to put up with this stuff, you might as well make a little money off of it,' " he said."

1. So why doesn't he go out there and sell t-shirts
instead of firing his gun?

Sounds like a loony tune to me

2. Sounds like he is probably just an ornery old anti-social fart
who moved out to the middle of nowhere to get away from everything--only to have it end up on his doorstep. (not excusing him)
Crazy rat bastard.

3. Interesting. Seems he just wants the show out of his yard
and it's not personal like the other locals who've been driving thru camp and laying on their horn, etc.

13. Must not want the show outta his yard too badly
if he allows the media to use his actual private property.

23. Allowing the use of his property may also allow him to
control the intrusion.

25. There is no intrusion on his property
they are in the ditch on public property, and by all reports as much as a mile from his actual house. He had to get in his truck to go terrorize the protestors so they can't be that close. If you look at any of the videos that have been posted here or on truthout.org they have to be the quietest group of protestors ever.

I live on a very similar road in the boonies expect the houses are within a quarter mile of each other and you wouldn't know anyone was around except when the yahoos fire their guns. He probably could have fired into the air from his house and the report would have been heard very loud and clear.

26. I wasn't referring to Camp Casey.
I was referring to the media. Actually I was referring to the following line from the original post. But Larry Mattlage, who permits NBC to use his 90-acre spread. He probably controls where on his property NBC can go and how they get there. NBC in turn will stop all of the other networks from invading his property.

It is also doubtful that his house is a mile from the road, unless he has a very long narrow piece of property. Remember he only owns 90 acres, not very much land to be a mile deep.

28. Look At The CNN Video. His Land Is Clearly Fenced Off.
Edited on Sun Aug-14-05 03:42 PM by DistressedAmerican
We are located on public land exactly where the Sheriff told us to be!

Sorry but, this does not wash at all.

We go no where until Bush returns to Washington or speaks to Cindy and he better get used to it.

Simple as that.

31. I'm glad he has his property fenced,
good fences make for good neighbors. And I am sure his fence is not in the roads right of way.

But what does that have to do with what I was talking about?

And he UNSYMPATHETIC to us...

I little taste:

But Larry Mattlage, who owns the farm across the road from where Sheehan and her supporters are encamped, was not pleased by the new visitors, who hung protest signs in the trees. Sitting on his parked tractor across the road, Mattlage said he supported the right to protest but that the demonstrators should not be allowed to stay for prolonged periods.

"In the morning I usually wake up and see the morning sun," he said. "Now I wake up to stuff hanging in trees."

19. Check this out !
The Freepers are saying this about posting Mattlages' info:

To: Gunrunner2; hipaatwo; kristinn
Wonder how those freaks would like it if we posted their personal info all over the internet? That's the difference between us--Freepers wouldn't (or if someone tried, it would be quickly removed from the board).

.... but when it comes to posting Mia Lawrences' info and description of her infant child after the Jenna Bush fake ID drinking incident, then that's O.K.

Wondering if the Peace House could rent a small portion of his land to house everyone on for a fee?
