Should Cindy declare victory and leave Camp Casey? |
|
As a correlative question to Pitt's post above: If she did leave, how would it be reported in the press? Would she gain more by leaving now, now that her point has been made, rather than later? What point has been made? The point that GWBush is too chickenshit to even talk to a mother of a soldier killed in his war? I think Cindy should seriously consider closing camp and leave on a high note since she has come thru like a true hero and has inspired a new movement with a lot of people. Just my opinion...

1. She's been there a week. Certainly after two she'd have made her point. |
|
I'd suggest it depends on morale at the camp--is their scene still building or is it pooping out? It would be a shame to shut it down if it's still drawing new people.
It would be great, though, to preserve energy and momentum so that when Bush moves to another location, another tent city springs up instantly--wherever he goes.

3. She has the national spotlight on this war |
|
and the fact that there is NO good reason for it. I think she should and will stay the course and see it through. And I also believe if he won't meet with her on the chicken ranch, she will follow him to D.C. and camp there. My worry is she better have good protection on the trip between the chicken ranch and D.C.

at the WH gates if necessary. In some ways she has blocked herself in just as bush has--

29. Cindy's not thinking that at all. Yesterday she told us... |
|
She'd leave only after a meeting with Bush or when the last soldier from Iraq comes home.
she intends to follow Bush back to Washington, and arrangements are already under way to continue the protests there.

Everything he does short of meeting with her is a defeat for him. What kind of force of will, or lack of it, is behind this question?

35. We don't know what is in Cindy Sheehan's head right now... |
|
We do know that she follows the blogs. Whatever she might be thinking, it can only be good for her to see the type of support she has received in the responses here. I hate people that attempt to apply some type of sinister motive to anything that is posted. This thread can only be encouraging to Cindy Sheehan.

She should stay the course, as she plans on doing. She has said she will follow him to D.C. if she has to.
I don't understand why you think she should break camp, your post does not give justification for your stance.

13. She's already said she's following Bush no matter where he |
|
goes. If he leaves early and goes to Washington, she will too. Now, I know the freepers think it's stalking him, but someone needs to remind them that Bush is not a private citizen, but the President of the United States. Part of his job that he doesn't do is to be available to all American citizens.

18. Should Bush Declare Victory and Get Off HIs Bike and Meet Cindy? |
|
If friggin Bush, who can make time to go to fundraisers, little league games, ride his bike, and other vacation events for FIVE WEEKS can't manage to spend even five MINUTES talking to Sheehan, why in the world should SHE decide to pack in in?
At this point, Bush has lost any opportunity, although I doubt he wanted to take it, to look like a compassionate, sensitive man and it's a snowball's chance in hell that he would change his ill-advised stubborn course and look like a real man instead of a coward. Therefore, what Sheehan is doing is drawing attention both to his cowardice, his "Let Them Eat Cake While I Vacation" attitude, and lighting a firestick for the more than half the country that believe the Iraq War was the wrong thing to do.

From Cindy's post today at dailykos... http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/8/14/0357/37879 We also met a man whose son was KIA in Iraq in November of 2004. He still loves George Bush and thinks we are doing great things in Iraq. By the end of the day we were drinking beer together and telling each other "I love you." I am telling you miracles are happening here in Crawford.

20. No. She's got him in a no-win situation & should keep the pressure on. |
|
If he talks to her, it'll appear to the right wing as him caving in to her and coming off as weak.
If he continues to avoid her, he just digs the hole deeper. There are too many people following this now, and the more attention it gets, the more momentum it gains, and the bigger the future protests will be.

Word is still getting around about her. With some more positive coverage in the captive press, the protest would probably grow much larger. Right now, it's all based on internet publicity.

|
She's displayed integrity and honesty-how refreshing! I believe her when she says that she'll stay there all month for him to talk with her-doesn't matter how many other people do or do not show up to support her. All she's asking for is a few minutes of the pResident's time to speak with him. That hasn't happened yet....so she patiently waits. GOOD FOR HER!
