Not that I am one, but I have teenage neices and nephews that may enjoy reading about pacifist theories.....meditating on them.....taking notes on personal journeys....Maybe something with margins where one could, if they wanted to, record their personal beliefs about war...write down their possible conclusions about whether a war is ever morally permissible.....in a diary that is dated and confirmable by a panel of the selective service.....

Anyone know anything like that?

1. Just read one called "I'd Rather Teach Peace" by Colman McCarthy
McCarthy, a longtime columnist for the Washington Post, is a noted pacifist and peace studies educator. He has even created a foundation which offers conflict resolution/peace studies instruction.

Here's a link to a brief bio. You can also get his stuff via Amazon or any of the other chain bookstores.

:hi:

2. From a Christian perspective, John Howard Yoder is the tops
and most profound of the pacifists.

Read his Politics of Jesus, pretty much the number one book on the theology and practice of Christian pacifism: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0802807348/qid=1124045144/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-8009139-4281638?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

And his Christian Witness to the State
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0836192095/qid=1124045144/sr=8-4/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i3_xgl14/002-8009139-4281638?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

Also, Peter Brock's Pacifism in the Twentieth Century, though not theory, is an interesting compendium of various pacifistic movements:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0815681259/qid=1124045093/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/002-8009139-4281638?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

Bonhoeffer's The Cost of Discipleship is also a good one, though not specifically pacifistic, and even though Bonnhoeffer later decided that it was okay (though still a sin) to try to assassinate Hitler:

Also Bonnhoeffer's Letters from Prison, and Ethics are good books.
