Poll: 80% of Democrats disapprove, 90% of Republicans approve of *
Bush Approval a Low for Two-Term Leaders
By WILL LESTER, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - President Bush's standing with an American public anxious about Iraq and the nation's direction is lower than that of the last two men who won re-election to the White House — Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton — at this point in their second terms.

But solid backing from his base supporters has kept Bush from sinking to the depths reached by former presidents Harry Truman, Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter and Bush's father. Truman decided not to run for re-election. Nixon resigned. Carter and the first President Bush were defeated in re-election campaigns.

snip...
Bush's job approval in recent polls ranges from the low- to mid-40s. It was 42 percent in the latest AP-Ipsos poll. His ratings on everything from handling Iraq to the economy to Social Security and other domestic issues are at their lowest levels so far.

Reagan was at 57 percent at this stage of his presidency and Clinton was at 61 percent, according to Gallup polling at the time.

The partisan divide for Bush is stark — 80 percent of Democrats disapprove of his overall performance while nearly 90 percent of Republicans approve.
Charles Black, a veteran GOP strategist and close Bush ally, said Republicans are sticking with Bush for two reasons: personal affection and loyalty.

20. That 20% are the "moderates" and DLCers.
The idiots who don't get it, in other words, but who want to shove their not-getting-it down the rest of our throats. :grr:

3. "Bush's willingness to ignore public opinion wins her over."
"For Trisha McAllister, a Republican from Grenada, Miss., Bush's willingness to ignore public opinion wins her over.

'I may not approve of every single thing he does," McAllister said, "but he's a true leader because he's not leading by the polls.'"

That's not a leader, dear. That's a dictator.

9. Princess Trisha wants to live in the Magic Kingdom
She's brain-washed by decades of Disney "monarchs are good" thinking.

4. this article totally misses the bigger picture

Bush is getting hammered in the polls by 'independents'.

And, the number identifying themselves as 'Republican' is shrinking.

Charlie Black can kiss my ass.

5. I get polled now and again and they always call me an independent even
though I belong to an actual party. But what the heck, at least I get to say my piece. (Unless it's a push poll, of course. Then I get to magically back up whatever point they want to make.)

Nixon was a a-hole but sadly that's a huge improvement over what we have now.

11. BING BING BING!!!!
If he is that low, and 90% of puggies like him, then there are not many7 identifying as puggies, or they are not being polled, which I very much doubt.

6. Those 90% will seemingly support W no matter what, no matter what he does,
no matter what he causes and that's scary indeed.

12. How does this make any sense? 90% of Repubs approve yet his approval
rating is in the low 40s? I think this is BS.

14. Honestly I think this is a reflection of the "aw shucks I'm just yer
average good ole boy" image. People WANT to like him no matter how much he screws up. "But he means well."

Except that those of us who bother to be informedknow that he doesn't mean well. He's a sleazy, sly, greedy SOB and he will walk over all of us to do and have whatever he wants.

15. Many republicans I talk to also disapprove
From all the people I talk to in daily life, I find practically no support of Bush whether it be democrat or republican I'm talking to. This poll doesn't seem right.

22. Take into account the dems, repigs and independents. The only way he
can even be in the low 40's is to have almost every repig approving.

18. The numbers seem wrong... well, the repuke numbers...
I know more people now who won't vote repub in 2006 or 2008 because of *.

Some have even woken up to see the sheer pointlessness of it all and will not vote at all either. And they are Republicans too.

21. Just like 2004....if you're Republican you voted Bush.
They were the easiest votes to steal. They are also the easiest segment to misrepresent in polls. No way do 90% of registered R's approve of this criminal administration.

It's going to take a massive movement for moderate Republicans to either change their political affiliation from Republican to Indie or Democrat before we can get these people out of our government.

19. Why can't the DLC and the Biden-Clinton-Lieberman wing get this?
Democrats do not like Bushism. Republicans adore Buhism. If you want to rally Democrats, stop trying to outBush the Bushists, goddamn it!
