He's making his dough. Save your gifts for the parents of the kids being blown up in Iraq. Just my ornery two cents.

1. Yes, when I heard that....
I lost some of my compassion for "an innocent neighbor." He's a profiteering neighbor and therefore must take the good with the bad.

14. YOU ARE THE ONE THAT'S SHAMEFUL HERE
You have been ranting and raving all night about this yourself, to me and many others. I hope you're satisfied. I won't post another word about the subject or anything else for a while. Your style of "unity" is interesting.

16. Bluebear.....
I didn't see what the deleted message said, but evidently I'm "shameful"! LOL I don't think so - and neither are you.

It is relevant that Larry receives money from the media to use his property, in my opinion. I may be guilty of being "shameful" at times but this isn't one of those times.

Don't you dare stop posting.

3. Great news! Long-term national coverage! He's helping us!
If he were smarter, or truly grasping the point of his own ideology or the positive effect this is having on public opinion, he'd have refused everyone but Faux.

Just more proof repugs don't understand anything.

4. Now, see, if he was against the war...
this would make him a HYPOCRITE and lead the media to disregard everything he says, and cancel all their interviews with him.

5. More power to him. He's found a way to live with the situation.

I would have given usage of my land gladly, but hey, that's just me. The good news is that NBC is there. Now let's get all those other stations there to talk with Cindy Sheehan and to cover Camp Casey. :woohoo:

10. Lease or rent?
Big difference, legally. In a lease, he has no more ownership rights until the lease expires. Rental is different, the landlord retains all rights. IIRC from an old business law course.

11. I dunno, NBC news said lease on their report
In any case, he is cashing in on his situation. More power to him, but I wouldn't be shooting off guns. It's not attractive.

19. Wrong
I'm a landlord, your course info is outdated and too general.Lease agreements vary. Laws vary from state to state. NBC is likely leasing part of his property short term. The landlord still retains certain rights and obligations for the property.

21. I don't think we should discourage them for covering Camp Casey
It's better to have NBC there on that property than a shooting/hunt club practice range! lol

...why in the hell wasn't this man arrested? And sorry, the fact that "it is Texas" (an actual quote from him) doesn't cut it.

18. It's simple
Edited on Mon Aug-15-05 09:35 AM by ohio_liberal
It's not illegal to fire a gun on one's own property but I think if they wanted to, they could've found something to charge him with (menacing or somesuch). The police didn't want to arrest him. It probably would make the residents of Crawford even more hostile.

20. Yes he is
But he is NOT leasing his land to protesters. I think it's important to be courteous to Larry.

22. So then, NBC could "invite" the protestors to the "land"
and everyone would be out of the ditch and away from the road?

23. And if someone was charging FAUX Nooz rent...
We'd be high-fiving each other...

In Indianapolis, people who live near the Speedway rent out their front yards to race-goers for parking. Never thought THAT was particularly reprehensible....

It's his land. If NBC is happy and he's happy, who gives a rat's ass?
