Would canceling my Washington Post subscription really matter?
I'm a longtime subscriber to the Post, but find myself so incredibly angry about this pro-war, propaganda march they are sponsoring on Sept. 11th. Moreover, their crappy coverage leading up to the war has had me on the verge of canceling for the past two years.

That said, I still find myself paying for the paper because I do like certain aspects of it. I like their sports columnists, their Style page, and their local coverage. Is anyone else dealing with the same issue? If I cancel, will it really make a difference -- even if I do so with an explanation of why?? Would I suffer a whole lot more than the paper? Argghh!!!

P.S. If you have no idea what I am talking about, see here:

5. in what conceivable way would one newspaper cancellation
save trees? They won't print one newspaper less, they'll probably just throw one more into the newspaper things in grocery stores.

8. I could say he would save the money paid for a subscription
Edited on Sun Aug-14-05 09:50 PM by Inland
But you would say that there isn't any CONCEIVABLE way he wouldn't just spend the money anyway.

After all, it isn't CONCEIVABLE that the Post tries to print only the newspapers it can foreseeably sell, and therefore it's similarly not CONCEIVABLE that he wouldn't write a check and flush it down the toilet.

4. As a subscriber, you might carry more weight with expressing your
critcisms to the Post than I would.

10. yeah, me too. Tell them some fantastic lie like you
get 100 subscriptions for your "offices" and that you're gonna cancel them all cuz you're so disquested. They wont care about you bitching, but hitting them in the pocket book is a different story.

12. Does the "Moon Man" own this paper or is his the Washington Times?
I cannot really remember, but Moon Man and Falwell are real tight (due to loans of cash and stuff). We all know Falwell is pro war.

I don't want to see ANYMORE KIDS going over there whether they are conservatives kids or ours; however, the rights kids either need to stand up or shut up.

Do they have recruiters at the colleges (not just the Community colleges but the biggies like UNC, UVA, Harvard, Yale, also, Wellesley, Stanford, etc? I say if they are so pro war, and we obviously need more over there to get control if the ones over there are not coming home, then those should be the ones to go. They can consider it some of their future charity work or whatever.

I hate the way this man has divided this country. Hate is an awfully strong word; unfortunately, that is how I feel anymore.

9. because for the most part it's a well written newspaper
despite some of the people it employs, there are a lot of good things to read in said paper (Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon in sports, the guys from Car Talk in the Style section). Like the New York Times, it's more informative than preachy, and almost as enjoyable to read as the "old gray lady".

11. Well, they also published a pretty embarrassing article for BushCo
Edited on Sun Aug-14-05 09:58 PM by deadparrot
on the front page of today's paper.

But you're right, the MSM has been pitiful in its coverage, and if you feel its necessary, absolutely do it. :)
