Message from a Tree Hugging Liberal - Our Nation's Beaches
Just got back from a vacation at the North Carolina beaches (Crystal Coast area).

I want to say that i am disgusted by some people while I have great admiration for others.

First the ones I am disgusted with.....

These are the filthy pigs that come to the beach with their bags of chips, cans and bottles of beer or soda and their countless beach accessories and then leave behind the trash and crap they don't want to carry back to the car. The kind of people who think nothing of leaving a freaking bottle of gatorade on the shore because they are inconsiderate pigs.

Or the smoking pigs (excluding the nice smokers) who treat the beach as one big ashtray...and leave tons of butts on the beach...and don't tell me about how they will dissolve...it is digusting. One hotel near where we stayed (it was a Ramada) had so many freaking butts on the beach where their guests sat under their umbrellas it was amazing that anyone wanted to stay there....

On my many walks I would pick up trash that others left...cuz I am just a crazy tree hugger and in some cases I would find styrofoam and even plastic bottles covered in barnacles...evidence that it had been out floating on the ocean...and I would also find plastic bags...the can choke sea turtles...

To all those pigs...I hope that one day you see the light or perhaps as much as it kills me...the beach will be so disgusting to you that you might just realize you caused this problem and try and fix it.

Then there are the wonderful folks that live in those areas that clean up after the pigs. The kind of folks that watch for sea turtle nests and who care for their nests by protecting them....and keeping watch over them. While I was there a team of volunteers unearthed a leatherback nest that was way past due to find that all 60+ eggs were stillborn.....but they were still optimistic since the nest was probably an early one....and they were excited cuz it was the first time in some people's memory that a leatherback had visited their beach... an 8 foot circumference turtle that weighed approximately 500lbs ...(came up on the beach in daylight while people were around...and laid the nest)

So to those people I say Thank You and Kudos for the great work!!!!

3. Move over tree.........
I need to hug that baby. Man I couldn't agree more. I am always picking up crap left by some PIG at parks, at the beach or the river where we like to canoe. I especially dislike cigarette smokers. God damn assholes, but you have to remember, anyone who would do such an awful thing to their bodies....well who gives a shit about the beach?? Wish I could join you down at the Coast, kind of out my league anymore, but I have been down there a few times...it is really beautiful, especially out on the water in my Catamaran. Anyway, keep up the good work, you will never convince the PIGS to stop, just teach everyone you can how to take care of the planet. Thanks. (BTW, my brother and his family are onsite right now, Emerald Isle, N.C.)

4. This is so sad and sick
I cannot understand why some people are such pigs. Every time I see someone throw a cigarette out the window I want to puke. I wonder how they treat the place they reside in?

Every 4th of July the beaches in San Diego get trashed. These people come here to have their fun and leave their trash without a second thought. Of course, there are always volunteers who come out and clean up the mess. These people have no sense of responsibility when it comes to our environment and that will be our undoing one day.
