Is Bush Out of Control?
By DOUG THOMPSON
Aug 15, 2005, 05:46

Buy beleaguered, overworked White House aides enough drinks and they tell a sordid tale of an administration under siege, beset by bitter staff infighting and led by a man whose mood swings suggest paranoia bordering on schizophrenia.

They describe a President whose public persona masks an angry, obscenity-spouting man who berates staff, unleashes tirades against those who disagree with him and ends meetings in the Oval Office with “get out of here!”

In fact, George W. Bush’s mood swings have become so drastic that White House emails often contain “weather reports” to warn of the President’s demeanor. “Calm seas” means Bush is calm while “tornado alert” is a warning that he is pissed at the world.

<snip>

“There’s real concern in the West Wing that the President is losing it,” a high-level aide told me recently.

I just hope like hell they're keeping that football well out of arms' reach of the fruitcake.

1. I swear I've seen this piece before
Wasn't the same or a similar article from capitalhillblue about this time last year? And just after that was an article from a psychiatrist or psychologist who stated Bush has a personality disorder. :shrugh:

Bush's Erratic Behavior Worries White House Aides
By DOUG THOMPSON
Jun 4, 2004, 02:17

President George W. Bush’s increasingly erratic behavior and wide mood swings has the halls of the West Wing buzzing lately as aides privately express growing concern over their leader’s state of mind.

In meetings with top aides and administration officials, the President goes from quoting the Bible in one breath to obscene tantrums against the media, Democrats and others that he classifies as “enemies of the state.”

Worried White House aides paint a portrait of a man on the edge, increasingly wary of those who disagree with him and paranoid of a public that no longer trusts his policies in Iraq or at home.

“It reminds me of the Nixon days,” says a longtime GOP political consultant with contacts in the White House. “Everybody is an enemy; everybody is out to get him. That’s the mood over there.”

19. yep, same basic story, repeated from the same source
Makes it somewhat suspect unless reported (not merely repeated) by other sources.

10. Haven't I read here on DU that you can't trust Capital Hill Blue?
What's in this article does sound believable, but I'm afraid that it's wishful thinking on my part!

I wish someone here really KNEW a staffer at the WH. I once worked with a guy who was a SS agent during Johnson's term. Ooooh the stories HE told! It would be GREAT to hear the real inside scoop on Shrub!

13. I can believe this story...after all, Bush I used to have the bonehead
come in and do his 'dirty' work, ie firings and such.

bush does not have the intellect nor the cautious attitude necessary for such a position. Remember, he has failed at everything he has attempted to do in the past, and I see no reason for him to succeed as PotUS.

Sad and scary thing is, this clown has another 3 years to go, and that is a lot of days and hours that can drag this man down the mental sewer....he borders on megalomania now, by the time 3 years is up, he may pull a Caesar and place himself among the gods....:scared:

Edited on Mon Aug-15-05 10:47 AM by jsamuel
They were just sitting and waiting and he blew by her in a fit of rage. Screaming at someone for no apparent reason and throwing something. He then saw her and became all smiles.

15. Sigh - Capitol Hill Blue...
Sadly, it has a rep for spinning stories out of whole cloth.

They've been on this "Bush is crazy" thing for a while now, but they never seem to be able to back it up with anything except "he said she said" type of gossip.

Granted, I believe the son of a bitch IS nuts, and DO believe that he is paranoid to the nth degree, but I wish these reports would come from somewhere else other than Capitol Hill Blue.

18. I think that's one reason there is so little public access to him....
he's a time bomb who doesn't care what he says or who he flips off.

One report I saw last week told how many "fancy dinners" the presidents have with other dignitaries from around the world. Reagan, Bush41, and Clinton had hundreds - Bush has had three.
