Has anyone noticed the increased membership on DU |
|
over the past four or five days? I think registered membership is up about 300-400 people since last Wednesday or Thursday.
It's great to see all the new people. Welcome to all of you!

5. I don't know if there's a way to censor curse words and |

sexual talk, but you might want to look into that, or have a nice long talk with him.

7. Perhaps only slightly. Registrations are about 60/day. That's typical. |

8. Interesting -- thanks, TahitiNut |

I didn't realize it was that steady (except for the surge in November, of course, which is when I found DU and joined). I just happened to notice the numbers the last few days and it seemed like a lot in just a few days.
How are things in Royal Oak? We were at the relocated Mongolian BBQ Saturday night. I remember when the first one opened -- a former friend of mine who had his office upstairs and nextdoor to it gave it six months. Boy, was he wrong. It's thriving and has turned into a chain.

9. There've been Mongolian BBQ's all over the country for over 15 years. |
|
It's truly a winning DIY casual dining approach - a budget Benihana. I remember when I went to my first one in podunk eastern Washington (state) in the early 90's - excellent. It's nice that Main Street has become a magnet for a wide variety of casual dining. If there's anything this area needs it's an improvement in eating habits - exceeded only by a change in exercise habits, I guess. As a growing boy (circumferentially, these days), I'm acutely aware of this.

12. BD's opened in RO in 93, I think the manager said |
|
Then it spread around the country. I know there were others, but BD's started here. When they first opened we used to stand in the bay window in my friend's office and people watch -- it was quite a phenomenon -- people stood around outside for hours waiting for a table.
I know what you mean about exercise habits. I'm trying to get back into mine.

14. I sorta like BD's service format, actually. |
|
I've been to Mongolian BBQ's in Richland WA, San Jose CA, Scottsdale AZ, Seattle WA, and other places and BD's compares quite well. I tend to prefer, however, the non-storefront ambiance with far more light and vista. It's one of the drawbacks, for me, of the Main Street "form factor." Other than sidewalk cafes and Memphis Smoke's rooftop, it's tough to find the ambiance I like there. (sigh) There's always Chili's and TGIF, I guess.
I wonder when 'penthouse' restaurants will gain some favor there. It seems to me that SE Michiganders are too "cave-oriented" - warily devouring their kill in the confines of a dark and secure cave. :silly:

11. Yep. The graph doesn't show "micro-bursts" ... |

... or short-term shut-offs. When there's 50-200 'invasions' in an hour or two, it gets lost on the graph's granularity of about 500-registrations intervals. The data are only accurate to a date (not a time), and I sample every 500 registrations. Because the rate of registration actually surpassed 500/day around election time, I had to resort to daily 'slices' rather than registration intervals. (I think if I were Elad, I'd consider programatically throttling registrations by capping at some hourly rate.)
