Anywhere but Texas
Almost any other state people would not leave a grieving mother in the ditch in hundred degree weather. They would at least offer her some lemonade or water and provide a modicum of comfort. It is just plain common courtesy anywhere in the USA except Texas. There they leave grieving mothers in the ditch and make fun of them. Any real man or any religious person would offer comfort to anyone in need. Not Bush* though he has a life.

5. With all due respect, as a Texan, I must object to your post
You do realize that hundreds of TEXANS have come to the aid of Cindy Sheehan, don't you? Have you been there? I was there this weekend, and the outpouring of support is awe-inspiring. Although many supporters are from out of state, the heavy-lifting, the day-to-day long haul, is being carried by TEXANS.

Please don't paint all Texans with the same brush. Cindy Sheehan is being left in a ditch by Dubya, and as any REAL Texan knows, Dubya is NOT a Texan.

24. The OP sounds like another version of the South-bashing
that goes on, repeatedly, here.

Like everyone in the South is a Bush fan, which is NOT true. Most Southern states are red by virtue of the Electoral College. Yes, some red states have as many as 60 percent of their voters who have had the wool pulled over their eyes, but there's an average of about 40 to 45 percent of us in each state - and that's a lot - who aren't stuck in some other reality.

Edited on Mon Aug-15-05 11:30 AM by in_cog_ni_to
I find it hard to believe that EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN CRAWFORD TEXAS LIKES BUSH and supports him! For those people to ostracize Cindy and make her suffer the way they have, is unforgivable. Shame, shame, shame on them all.

on edit, I do not believe ALL people in Texas are like those in Crawford....just to be clear. ;)

20. The mayor of Crawford voted for Kerry-the newspaper in Crawford
Edited on Mon Aug-15-05 12:20 PM by liveoaktx
is the Iconoclast which is sure not pro-Bush. Even Larry Mattlage, who doesn't like all the people intruding into his life, is not pro-Bush.

On edit, I meant to say that the mayor voted for Kerry. The place that most was angered by stuff (and gets the most publicity) is this yahoo country store that cashed in by supporting Bush and upgraded the ONE place in town that isn't all dusty and run down... and put 10 commandments and a liberty bell in front. Now they LOVE Bush because their cash register is ka-chinging.

39. Nope. Won't concede that.... The District Crawford is in
has a Democratic rep-Chet Edwards, despite the Republicans attempting to redistrict him out. The district he was in before was... Fort Hood. The new district he has right now includes the VA Hospitals in Waco and Baylor and it's right in the thick of the Bible belt.

I just don't think you can trust the media accounts to tell you accurately who does or who does not like Bush. Someone from my town has kin that live near Bush and he doesn't like it.

45. She has plenty of all these things..
and a huge group of people that are ready to deal with any whim she has..

There arent really neighbors like she is camped out in suburbia, you'd have to be familiar with the country to understand. It isnt as if they can drag out a water hose. She isnt on the main strip, most people just stay away. If the people of crawford were really being difficult then theyd be out protesting her presence, which they arent. The people who are are driving in.

For the most part, people in Crawford dont appear to be getting involved on either side. There are some on Prairie chapel with signs in their lawn about how they support the president, if the president's presence helped feed your family out in the middle of BFE, you might do the same. Im not going to judge them. We all have our demons.

I was there this weekend and i would be willing to say that about 85% of the cars there were from Texas. We cam out in droves to support Cindy and her cause. Bush is not from Texas, he's from Connecticut if I'm not mistaken. I was really impressed with the Sheriffs there and told them so. They are doing their jobs and IMO doing them well. They were polite and even when a ladies car was going to get towed I think she got a chance to go and get it before they took it. As far as offering lemonade, many of us that went this weekend took water, snacks etc.....

22. Bush could just as easily have chosen to be a Floridian like Jeb...
...and that crazy gun-shooting neighbor could be in any number of rural communities. Besides, many more Texans have come out to help.

As silly and provincial as people sound when they get on a soapbox about "southern hospitality" and how "America is the greatest country in the world," it's just the opposite side of the same coin to make generalizations that happen to be negative.

They may deviate a little here and there with regard to minor local customs, but on larger issues of kindness and humanity "people are people," regardless of where they live.

because, even though in 2000 there were thousands of us in Texas pleading with all of you to read the record. But NOOOOOOOOOOOOo, the rest of the states had enough idiots (we aren't unique) and they put him in the White House, not once but twice!!

NOW, like people everywhere, who need to blame someone else, they blame all of Texas. Well, go to a friggin freeper board and vent. That's where the Texans and the rest of them you're looking for can be found.

The people who live in Texas, who are at DU, were on the frontlines, begging, pleading, sending out the warning. We were ignored and now we get the blame.

46. They are not really Houston residents
During Poppy's VP years and Presidential years and years at the UN, China and CIA they ALWAYS maintained a home in Maine. When they came to Houston, they lived in a hotel suite. A hotel suite that provided them a voting address, which provided them a pseudo residence so they could CLAIM a home/hotel suite in Texas, which exempted his millions (just like his buddies) from a state income tax.

Now they have a home here that they use like their rich buddies do, for income tax breaks. They are here part of the winter months, when they aren't vacationing somewhere, but as soon as the weather breaks in Maine, they're back at their true family home. The home they have maintained for all those years they "lived" in a hotel suite in Houston.

My husband and I were delegates for Dukakis at that convention.

We didn't get there for the baloney sandwiches, but could have used some brought over to the George R. Brown. As I recall, the first night, we were at the hall til 3am and had to be back bright and early.

We were fairly new to Texas and discovered What-a-burger that night/morning, trying to find a 24hr place eat.

Ya coulda sent some baloney over to the Credentials Committee, lol
