Husband of "Peace Mom" files for divorce

The husband of Cindy Sheehan, a Vacaville mother camped outside President Bush's ranch in Texas to protest the death of a son who was killed while serving with U.S. forces in Iraq, filed for divorce, according to court documents.

Patrick Sheehan filed a petition for the dissolution of his marriage Friday in Solano County Superior Court. His lawyer did not immediately return a call seeking comment Monday.

The couple's eldest child, Casey, 24, was an Army soldier killed in April 2004.

Cindy Sheehan said the stress of the death led to the separation of the couple, who were high school sweethearts.

1. Associate People [Magazine]?
Well, if People is covering Sheehan, I guess we should have our newswires covering ALL of her personal life.

2. So what. Let Cindy and her husband handle it.
The more uproar from her supporters the more fodder for the sycophant press.

12. It does keep her in the news...
My impression of Cindy is that they can't do anything to her that's any worse that what has already happened to her. Once you've suffered the loss of your son, what's a little smearing in the press or some fire ants going to do you?

So now a story goes out that she's getting a divorce. Is it going to make her less credible? Or make her message resonate less? It just keeps her story in the press for another cycle. Had they just met with her in the first day or two, nobody would be writing about her divorce.

13. It's a cruel and hurtful way to keep her in the news and
we should not participate in this.

16. Believe me, I wouldn't want to...
I'm commenting more on the futility of the strategy to try to use this to attack her -- essentially all it does is keep her in the news without taking away from her message.

I fully agree with you. I wouldn't dream of using this on purpose for our side.

3. How low will they go?
Whenever I think they have reached their limit, they keep going lower. Are we supposed to be shocked or think less of her? This is total B.S.

4. At least they seem to be fair with it...

"Cindy Sheehan said the stress of the death led to the separation of the couple, who were high school sweethearts."

No speculation about her activism causing the problem and no quotes from her Freeper family members saying she needs psychological help.

It's news...they seem to have reported it pretty fairly.

(on edit) "It's news" wasn't a judgment call as to the true newsworthiness...just a statement of fact in today's society.

10. Imagine if every divorce was reported by the AP.
This is between Cindy and Patrick.

Saddened and sickened that this is considered news.

11. Look up the writer... anyone reporting that as story is a shill
No question. We all knew this already, given that they were planning to file a while back. Stress via the death of a child does that. The focus of the story, if it were honest, should have been "high school sweethearts divorce due to soldier son's death."

That is the story, not the divorce, but the reason for the divorce. Any good journalist worth their salt would have seen that.

14. Let's see, which party has had DIVORCED persons in leadership positions?
Ronnie Raygun - divorced - REUPKE President.

So it MUST be NO BIG DEAL if ANYBODY gets a divorce, right?

I mean, Ronnie was seeing nancy when he was STILL MARRIED, right?

So, I mean, these folks are just getting a divorce, WITHOUT HAVING AN AFFAIR AS RONNIE RAYGUN DID. - So it must be OK, right?

I mean, the repukes never made much about it at all, - in fact THEY NEVER MENTIONED IT! So it must be OK for EVERYBODY ELSE, right?

If it's not, then aren't the REPUKES being a "bit" HYPOCRITICAL?

No, that can't be it! Otherwise, we'd be hearing about this hypocritical "concern" all of a sudden from our DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP or our "LIBERAL" PRESS, right? RIGHT?
