Judge rules some arguments in Abu Ghraib prison photo case must be divulged

NEW YORK A federal judge in New York says he generally ruled in favor of public disclosure in a case involving images of detainee abuse at Iraq's Abu Ghraib (grayb) prison.

The judge has ordered the government to reveal some parts of its argument for blocking the release of pictures and videotapes.

U-S District Judge Alvin Hellerstein says his rulings pertain to arguments by General Richard Myers, the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, and State Department official Ronald Schlicher.

The judge gave U-S Attorney David Kelley, who argued the case, time to appeal the rulings.

1. So what?

These people have no respect for any authority.

Clarification: I mean the Bush Administration, Republicans, conservatives, etc. And "so what" is the attitude I attribute to them.

2. thanks for the update (such as it is)
In other words, we MIGHT be able to hear some of their excuses for NOT releasing the pics, right? I thought we were going to get a ruling on the pictures themselves.

3. HUH?????????????????
So the judge didnt make any ruling today on the photos, the only thing he ruled on was that the pentagon has to make public SOME of the reason why they dont want the photos to be released.

The judge also gave Kelly time to appeal thhe ruling.

Oh well, I think we can forget about the photos ever being released, they might released the reason they dont want them release in a couple of years, but as for the photos themselves, forget about it.

4. I takes a court order just for the public to find out why
they are violating a court order?

Up next:

A court order for them to explain why they did not obey the court order for them to disclose reasons for not following the court order.
