My daughter started her Senior year of High School today... |
|
and the topic in economics today was the gas prices. The teacher went over the correlation of minimum wage jobs to the increase in everything relating to the gas prices. When he asked the class why gas prices were so high...one of the boys in the class said "George Bush...duh". Coming to you from the red part of the country.:)

We never did shit on the first day. Of course, my school sucked and this was close to 15 years ago.

I graduated in 2001 and we didn't do much on day one either. We mostly did introduction's and got paper's to take home and fill out and we started doing work officially on the second day. Same thing with college (I go to a community school right now).

14. Well they expedited all that this year |
|
The school district mailed the papers two weeks ago and they had to turn them in today. They picked up their laptop computers last week so they could get them set up and ready to go. Our school is in BIG trouble with the state and in danger of losing accreditation...they can't spend one minute goofing off. They have to get their TAKS scores up. There are alot of incentives for the kids to get them up...exemption from final exams, time off of school if they pass, bonus trips, etc. The new superintendant (that was chosen by the state) is off to a running start. Also note that he didn't bring HIS kids down here to go to school. He is going to commute 2 hours a day.:(

7. Well she was explaining this to me as I was listening to Randi Rhodes |
|
:) but he was saying that the middle class was going to disappear unless they raise the minimum wage in relation to the higher gas prices because the gas prices affected our grocery prices and utility prices.

8. ok, i thought he might have been one of them freepers who try |
|
to correlate that a rise in min wage causes inflation & it is what made gas prices go up...

My Mom always tips them with some extra money (a few dollars) for gas. Especially since it's so high now.

6. How about correlating gas prices to corporate profits? |
|
This should have a lot more statistical pull than anything about minimum wage jobs. Frankly, with more of the population heading towards the minimum wage floor in terms of buying power, we should see gas prices DROPPING, but no.
Someday one of these cheap labor proponents will be able to adequately explain why workers should rightfully earn a thousandth of a board-room chart jockey's salary. I'm still waiting for that one.

13. They did an bit on our local t.v. last night, they interviewed folks |
|
at the gas stations as they were filling up. When asked why the price of gas was so high, one fellow said Bush, Cheney and Haliburton, the admin and congress to sold out to the oil companies. I'm in a red state too and the fellow that said this was elderly, from a red community.
The pendulum is swingin back.
