We must love and respect the Republicans....
Edited on Mon Aug-15-05 07:32 PM by Tom Yossarian Joad
And not call them "stupidmotherfuckers." Because that might alienate them from our party.

We should not call them "narrow minded." That might offend them.

We should not question their heroes. That might offend them as well and their heroes are all messengers from God.

We should not question their integrity because Tom Delay is a "Born Again" exterminator.

We should not question their morality because there's a little known asterisk by the "Thou shalt not kill" commandment and Clinton once got a blow job.

We should not suspect their motives, because the American Jesus equates wealth with Godliness.

We should not question the war because as Goering advised, "Dismiss the pacifists as unpatriotic. It works every time." (Paraphrase)

We should not question their religion because God speaks to Bush.

We should be as sheep and consume the Rovian spin. To do otherwise is unpatriotic.

We should embrace the DLC because they feel that to insult the ignorant will leave their pockets empty.

Peace Out.

2. Yeah, I've seen little or nothing of that on DU.

The closest I've seen to your claim is the suggestion that we *not* call recovering Republicans "stupidmotherfuckers," seeing as we might like their vote next year.

4. "Recovering Republicans?" I'm with you there.
But the kool aid drinkers?

That's a different story.

7. Well, definitely not Kool-aid drinkers...
As long as they stick with BushCo, I see them as my opposition. If they support the mass murder of Iraqis and coalition soldiers, they are no allies of mine.

17. diehard neocons tune out everything they disagree with..
Neocons believe they are better morally, spiritually, physically, and intellectually than everyone else. Moderates often use political debate as a way to learn and improve arguments. It is unlikely to change anyone's political views with a single argument, but it is also easier to sway the views of conservatives who are close to us personally..over time.

8. But the extremists on the other side...
...also happen to control our government, courts and media.

We've turned the other cheek so many times that the Democratic party is now a bloody pulp.

10. No one's saying turn the other cheek. We're saying the red/blue
divide HURTS THIS COUNTRY! We need to explain to joe and jill sixpack why there bush/cheney vote was wrong. And we need to pick candidates they can vote for, people who they WILL vote for. They voted for Bill. They would have voted for Howard Dean, but not Kerry.

Now, as the the kool aid drinking, shurb worshipping freepers, they can kiss my ass.

we clear?

9. After observing the attempts by the compassionate
conservatives to amiably and patiently assist Cindy in her efforts to return to the Golden Way (may He live forever,) today, and the Fount af all Knowledge whipping his holy spinner, another ten commandments at this time is far too generous and I must (praise be to Him) humbly bow unworthy self and respectfully decline. (All Hail, All Hail)

13. It's important to remember that the path from far right to left
involves going through the moderate right and the center. I think we have to be careful help the travellers on that path keep up their leftward momentum, and especially not to alienate them or snub them when they are on their journey. I have never yet seen anyone change his belief system for the better because people were gathered around calling him/her an idiot.

16. ...Because that's how you build a majority.
I don't think a Reds fan becomes a Cubs fan just because of Pete Rose. If you want them on your side, you will have to work hard to win them.
