BREAKING: Japan tsunami alert after 6.8 earthquake

BBC reporter saying that the alert was that a tsunami that could cause minor insignifigant damage could occur, and that this is normal after a northern earthquake.

9. 7.0 off the east coast of Honshu, same place as the 6.0 3 weeks ago.
Not big enough and location such that a tsunami warning is NOT going to be issued for the W coast of the US. Hawaii is another matter.

NOT EXPECTED AND THERE IS NO TSUNAMI THREAT TO HAWAII. REPEAT. A
DESTRUCTIVE PACIFIC-WIDE TSUNAMI IS NOT EXPECTED AND THERE IS NO
TSUNAMI THREAT TO HAWAII.

THIS BULLETIN IS FOR ALL AREAS OF THE PACIFIC BASIN EXCEPT

NO DESTRUCTIVE PACIFIC-WIDE TSUNAMI THREAT EXISTS BASED ON
HISTORICAL EARTHQUAKE AND TSUNAMI DATA.

HOWEVER - EARTHQUAKES OF THIS SIZE SOMETIMES GENERATE LOCAL
TSUNAMIS THAT CAN BE DESTRUCTIVE ALONG COASTS LOCATED WITHIN
A HUNDRED KILOMETERS OF THE EARTHQUAKE EPICENTER. AUTHORITIES
IN THE REGION OF THE EPICENTER SHOULD BE AWARE OF THIS
POSSIBILITY AND TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION.

THIS WILL BE THE ONLY BULLETIN ISSUED FOR THIS EVENT UNLESS
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION BECOMES AVAILABLE.

15. A 7.0 this close (50 mi.) to major population centers (Sendai)
Is very grim. There will be extensive damage, and more than a few injuries--perhaps some fatalities. The Tsunami, if it happens my not be big, but the trouble inland will be....

Good luck to our friends in Japan. Keep us posted.
