cindy sheehan resonates with america -- but not because she's anti-war
sure, anti-war supporters are behind cindy sheehan because she's anti-war and making headlines.

and sure, anti-bushies are behind cindy because the media is actually showing how she's embarrassing shrub. actually, all presidents have their protesters, and dispensing with them gracefully is politics 101. so cindy's not embarassing the president so much as the president is embarrassing himself by showing us all that he can't even deal with a single protester.

now that shrub decided to avoid cindy (as if that was a surprise), cindy resonates with america for an entirely different reason.

the first amendment right to petition and redress.

that's right. one very fundamental notion about american government, as distinct from all others prior, was that WE THE PEOPLE had the right to confront those in government and ask them a few questions.

issues of iraq and war aside, this presidency is the most insulated in our history. meetings outside the white house are limited to donors and supporters, and even those are carefully choreographed. the press, we all know, has long fallen down on the job and has failed to ask shrub the questions that the american people want answers to.

millions of americans are STARVED for some STRIGHT ANSWERS from this administration.

it may have to do with iraq
it may have to do with the deficit
it may have to do with gas prices
it may have to do with education
it may have to do with valerie plame
it may have to do with social security

these questions may be from lefties, righties, centrists, whatever. that's not the point. the point is, people are FED UP with propaganda and lies.

with one question or another, we ALL want to just go up to the president and say:

CAN I PLEASE GET A STRAIGHT ANSWER TO MY SIMPLE QUESTION?

sadly, until we have a real president, our questions will all go unanswered. they may get addressed, but rest assured, they will not be answered.

1. I think she also resonates because of her sacrifice ,
willing or not, for this country. She lost a son and anyone with a heart can understand what pain she is going through. Even some people who love brush have a soft spot in their hearts for a grieving mother.

6. well, that adds to it. but there have been grieving families before
cindy's struck a nerve and it's something other than sacrifice.

we can have respect for her loss and her son's sacrifice, but we haven't all been there. wanting straight answers and getting nothing from an imperial *sshole who can't interrupt a month-long vacation to answer them, THAT'S something we can all feel right along side her.

8. That is a good point.
That there are many grieving mothers out there. But this grieving mother is being snubbed by a king. (or at least a spineless coward who thinks he's king).

2. Excellent point.
If there is one theme that runs through all of this administration's dirty dealings it's all this double speak and half (or no) truths, out and out lies, and just plain avoiding having to answer for anything or actually communicate to the public beyond spewing a few meaningless phrases.

4. Absolutely right! and how did she do it?
By literally STANDING UP, by putting her body on the line.

No matter how they try to smear her or divorce her from the public, that simple act is unassailable.

And the only thing that could cut through what LisaLynned points out:

"If there is one theme that runs through all of this administration's dirty dealings it's all this double speak and half (or no) truths, out and out lies, and just plain avoiding having to answer for anything or actually communicate to the public beyond spewing a few meaningless phrases."

SHE BLEW THEIR COVER. Cuz they depend on the barrier of the TV to deliver their spew. Cindy took it away and stood face to face, speaking truth to power in its PHYSICAL PRESENCE.

5. Exactly.....
...and why is the rw media talking heads turning this into an "anti-american" spinfest?

My simple question is "Why did Cindy's son die for a lie?" Thank goodness for Jon Stewart's show last night that put this whole messapalooza into prospective.

AND, I would love to see our DU Admin file a defamation lawsuit on behalf of the DU membership against Sean Hannity for labelling us "radical left wing extremists" (paraphrased from another thread!).

:silly:
