16. To be honest, Free Republic would be at the top of the list.
But since they do not use Blogads, their page views were not counted.

See EarlG's post below. for more info: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=4366183&mesg_id=4366514

19. Has anyone tracked Free Republic compared to DU as Discussion Boards?
Is there any way to do that. I can't believe FR would have more traffic than DU.

20. FR has a higher ranking than DU at alexa.com
It's no surprise, really. They existed for about four or five years before DU did.

9. Unfortunately we're being shortchanged on that rating
They're measuring blogads page views (each site's number represents one week's worth of page views). Kos has blogads on all his pages, but we only carry them on the homepage, the articles, and the Latest and Greatest pages.

DU actually gets around one million page views per day. Therefore if we put blogads on all our pages, like the other sites, those stats would look more like this:

1. Democratic Underground: 7,000,000
2. Daily Kos: 3,836,836
3. Raw Story: 1, 053,974
4. Talking Points Memo: 1,003,788

But it's very nice of them to mention us anyway :)

17. Well, it's kinda complicated
The study says "traffic is measured in weekly visits" - but it's not, it's measured in page views. That's a different measure. Because DU is a discussion forum, it generates a ton of page views. When it comes to unique visistors, Kos probably does get more than us. But that's a very difficult stat to measure, especially when all the blogs use Sitemeter, which is a completely unreliable counter - it counts page views as visits and can't handle large traffic websites like DU or Kos (it caps out at a certain number of page views per hour).

But that's all by-the-by... the fact that we're on the list is definitely cool.

21. Do they count traffic as number of hits on the ads? As in cookie counts?
Is it a data miner kind of thing? What if one doesn't click on the ads, would one be still considered in the "pager per view" count just because you viewed DU's front page, even though you didn't hit on the ad?

13. You would think that MSM would look at that and change their programming
ASAP. There ARE alot more of us than there are them--we just don't get the coverage. Too bad one of the network/cable news channels isn't smart enough to see that.
WHY does MSNBC think that Olbermann has the highest ratings?
WHY is a show on Comedy Central one of the highest rated (under O'Lielly)
WHY do they suppose Air America is doubling and tripling ratings of the failing stations they took over in every market they go into?

I'll tell you why. IF they gave us a mainstream voice (as in a channel dedicated to the progressive cause), people WOULD wake up. Why do they think O'Lielly's ratings are dropping?
People are tired of the RW talking points.

25. You'd think.
I've been telling them that there are millions of people unsatisfied with the current choices in cable television. I've been telling them they need more liberal shows. I've been telling them that the American people are bypassing them in favor of the Internet(s). And they just keep ignoring me. And MSNBC just keeps adding recycled pukes to their lineup.

Ignore us at your own peril, corporate whores.

Since "they" have the MSM more of us are looking for alternatives
