SF Chronicle runs Sheehan post with anti-Huffington URL ...
On Monday, August 15 the San Francisco Chronicle ran Cindy Sheehan's "This is George Bush's Accountability Moment" post from Arianna Huffington's Huffingtonpost website.

It was headlined "I'm holding Bush's feet to the fire."

A paragraph above the article (credited correctly to Cindy Sheehan) gave background on Sheehan and then said that the article originally ran at "Arianna Huffington's Huffingpost.com."

Huffingpost.com is an anti-Arianna website that parodies Huffingtonpost.com with mean and fake posts belittling Arianna Huffington.

I'm writing the Chronicle a letter demanding a retraction/admission on the Opinions page and to tell the readership exactly who chose to use the incorrect URL and why.

If you'd like to write the Chronicle, here's how:

Letters to the Editor:

To comment on news stories in the main section of the newspaper or to opine on views expressed on the Opinion pages, contact Letters to the Editor.

Please limit your letters to 200 or fewer words ... shorter letters have a better chance of being selected for publication.

# The editor prefers e-mail. The address is letters@sfchronicle.com

Please paste the text into the e-mail; do not send attachments. Our virus-detecting software will delete e-mail with attachments.)

# Or Fax: (415) 543-7708.

# Postal-mail is OK, too:

2. You gotta give'em a break though...
I'm sure it was an accident. The Chronicle's only one of the most left-wing papers in the country.

4. Oh definitely -- keep everybody honest!
I'm just saying that, in this case, try to do it with a concilliatory tone.

5. My letter to the editor ...

To the editor,

I was pleased to see that you ran Cindy Sheehan's post ("I'm holding Bush's feet to the fire," Monday, August 15) which I had originally read at the Huffingtonpost.com website.

Unfortunately, you gave false and misleading information when you told your readers where the opinion piece originated from. You told them it was originally printed at "Huffingpost.com" which is an anti-Arianna Huffington website that cruelly parodies her blog with fake and insulting posts.

If this mistake was due to poor copyediting, you owe a retraction and apology on the Opinions page. If it was deliberate, then you've given up any pretense of solid journalism. I suggest that you bite the bullet and admit the mistake to your readers.

6. Given their reputation, I'd give them the benefit of the doubt
Unless you find out otherwise.

Good letter, but you may want to consider toning down the last two sentences a bit. JMO

Good catch!
