Russian cows get new feed: marijuana
'I don’t know what the milk will be like after this,' drug agency officer says.

Updated: 5:03 a.m. ET Aug. 16, 2005

MOSCOW - Russia’s long winter will just fly by for a herd of Russian cows which, a newspaper reported on Tuesday, will be fed confiscated marijuana over the cold months.

Drug workers said they adopted the unusual form of animal husbandry after they were forced to destroy the sunflowers and maize crops that the 40 ton of marijuana had been planted among, Novye Izvestia daily reported.

“There is simply no other way out. You see, the fields are planted with feed crops and if we remove it all the cows will have nothing to eat,” a Federal Drugs Control Service spokeswoman for the Urals region of Sverdlovsk told the paper. “I don’t know what the milk will be like after this.”

Drug use in Russia took off with the decline of the Soviet Union and police have been fighting drug smugglers — often shipping heroin from Afghanistan — for years. Such large hauls are relatively common, although they are normally burned.

Sweeeeeeet! :smoke:

As for that one drug agency officer's quote, here's my prediction for what will happen to the cows' milk: Nothing at all.

13. no
It's better, a longer lasting different kind of buzz, and theraputic. If one has certain digestive disorders, eating pot could be just what the doctor ordered, only the fucking US govt won't allow it

This should fall under Roe v Wade-right to privacy between doctor and patient.

19. Ulcerative Colitis and Marijuana
To the Editor: The apparent protective effect of cigarette smoking on ulcerative colitis (1) suggests that inhaled plant products might affect the disease process. We report a case suggesting a relation between ulcerative colitis and smoking marijuana.

In 1972, a 23-year-old woman developed abdominal pain, diarrhea, and rectal bleeding. Sigmoidoscopy to 15 cm revealed diffuse cobblestone ulcerations, and a single-contrast barium enema showed numerous small marginal irregularities in the distal sigmoid and rectum. Ulcerative colitis was diagnosed, and her symptoms waxed and waned despite treatment with sulfasalazine, librax, and intermittent prednisone. Discouraged, she stopped all medications in 1975. In 1976, she noted that smoking marijuana resulted in fewer stools, more stable body weight, and fewer, milder exacerbations . Her typical intake was a pipeful once or twice daily, which she maintained despite her dislike for its euphoric effects. Cessation repeatedly resulted in exacerbations within a few weeks; resumption led to some improvement in a day or two, with maximal effect after several weeks.

8. Can a contented cow jump over the moon? Doesn't marijuana grow wild
in the midwest, a leftover from WWII efforts to grow hemp for making rope?

16. Ninety-nine Percent of All Marijuana Eradicated in US is Feral Hemp
Approximately 99% of all marijuana eradicated by the Drug Enforcement Administration's (DEA) Domestic Cannabis Eradication/Suppression Program in 2003 was feral hemp -- not cultivated marijuana, according to figures recently published online by the Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics.

According to the DEA data, of the estimated 247 million marijuana plants destroyed by law enforcement in 2003, more than 243 million were classified as "ditch weed," a term the agency uses to define "wild, scattered marijuana plants no evidence of planting, fertilizing, or tending." Unlike cultivated marijuana, feral hemp contains virtually no detectable levels of THC, the psychoactive component in marijuana, and does not contribute to the black market marijuana trade.

23. Yeah, but the THC content is very, very, very small...
You could smoke half a dozen whole joints and still not get high, if you're trying to smoke wild cannibis or "ditchweed."

Proper marijuana only has a THC content as high as it does becuase it is specifically bred for the purpose.

cannabis eradication efforts are nothing more than a cash cow for local law enforcement.

27. I hate to be a spoilsport...but...
Marijuana doesn't become psychoactive unless you heat it.

I'd love to see the stats on milk production in cows fed marijuana against cows fed that other kind of grass, but there won't be any happy heifers in those herds.

On the other hand...this diet could make hot chocolate a really fun beverage.
