Before jumping to conclusions about the priest having an affair with his secretary, consider the facts ("Defiant Msgr. steps down," Aug. 12). She is 46 and he is 79. The only feelings she'd have for him would be as a father figure. There are different kinds of love, and it does not always involve sex.

It just amazes me that some people will totally disconnect themselves from logic and reality when it comes to their "leaders" - they will always come up with an excuse for bad behavior, no matter how ridiculous that excuse is. I know this kind of thing shouldn't shock me anymore, but it does - especially when the man has resigned because he was caught.

they were both seen slipping into a Hamptons motel room, and emerging later with different clothes on (I suppose there could have been a blanket hung from the ceiling separating the two sides of the bed...)
