Desecration of Crawford Memorial = Spitting on Vietnam soldiers |
|
IMO, it doesn't matter if the memorial was erected by the right or left. It was a memorial to those who had given the ultimate sacrifice, regardless of how we feel about the war.
This whole incident just floored me. Imagine if it had been a memorial erected by a bunch of right-wingers. They would have been declaring us Godless sacrilegious un-American, soldier hating commies.
If Bush supporters think it's OK to destroy memorials to our soldiers then I'm glad I'm NOT on their side. Apparently mourning for those who have fallen is unpatriotic. We're not supposed to remember them. Even Memorial Day is trashed and cheapened with every retail store in the country slashing prices on sofas and bedroom suits in much bally-hooed MEMORIAL DAY CLEARANCE SALES! Memorial Day has become nothing more than the "official first weekend of summer", hasn't it?
Bless our men and women in harm's way and shame on those who slander our attempts to honor those who fallen.

there was never a single shred of evidence regarding anyone spitting on Vietnam vets. http://www.commondreams.org/views05/0430-21.htm

2. I remember in high school meeting some Vietnam veterans |
|
I was 16 and I asked them if all the stories were true about them being "spat on" by Americans upon their return home. One man told me that he was spat on in a rhetorical sense, but not by a liberal protestor. He told me he was dressed down by a right wing war hawk who criticized him for being the "first Americans to lose a war", and that he "let America down by losing."
