Crawford Post Office Diverting Mail to Peace House (ILLEGALLY)
I just received an e-mail that says the Crawford Post office is ILLEGALLY diverting mail addressed to Peace House if it does not contain the full 9 digit zip code!

Does anyone have any more info on this?

The full 9 digit zip code is 76638-3037.

If you want to register a complaint with the Crawford Post Office' Customer Service Rep, the toll free number is 1-800-257-8777.

It is a federal crime for any postal employee to divert mail for certain reasons, including the lack of a 9 digit zip code. The mail must be delivered if it has an otherwise valid address and a 5 digit zip code.

3. it says that on the CPF site!
http://www.crawfordpeacehouse.org/

Please use the 9-digit Plus-4 zip code; the Post Office says they will not deliver without it.

of Dubya supporters. No fear of any legal retribution. They'll find some Republican fat cat to get them off if anybody objects. The ends always justify the means.

6. local Crawford Post Office phone number is 254 486 2526
No one there now so can't talk to them. If they are doing this its time to have a lawyer pay them a visit.

7. Something I don't get
is why does the zipcode matter? I always thought the address and town name etc. mattered more then a zip code.

8. If it's a federal crime, then someone needs to press that NOW
Who was your email from (I'm not looking for names, just the role or job description or something -- "someone who's down there" or other descriptor.)

Let's not get all excited without further info. What you've posted isn't enough for me to get excited (no offense).

27. Yeah. I was trying to think of something other than some generic country
but I couldn't really come up with anything. Maybe North Korea? Or Iran? And, since I'm woman, possibly Iraq once they get their constitution worked out.

12. Let's confirm this before we run off half cocked.
I have a very hard time believing this. Believe it or not, most postal employees are contentious and trying to do a good job. And we all know that there are lots of internet rumors flying around.

not sure why those at CPH would post that on their site if they weren't having problems.

Everyone flying off the handle and getting all worked up about an unsubstantiated email and an equally vague website posting. Please. Find out how true it is and THEN trot out your righteous anger and your vitriol.

18. I would have to say I believe this is true because they have it on the
website in red. Please use the full digit # or it will not be delivered. Don't ask me why. It is really tough to reach the people I need to right now. It is crazy down there right now. If they put it on the website I have to assume for whatever reason this is what the PO is doing.

28. I think the 4 digit mail gets computer sorted
I think the 4 digit mail gets pre-sorted by the computers at the nearest mail hub.

I'm betting this is more of a case of a lone small town postal clerk snowed under by sorting out the non 4 digit mail for the Crawford residents with the influx of Cindy's mail.

I'd guess they just won't get the non 4 digit mail in as timely of a manner as the 4 digit stuff.

I live in a small town with one lone postal worker and not even door delivery (we go to the PO to pick our mail up). I couldn't even imagine what my poor postal employee would be going through if we had a Camp Casey in our town.

Maybe someone from the Peace House should go over and clear this up with the PO before everyone gets worked up.

I'm thinking it's not political but a case of being overwhelmed.

34. I dont think
with a town of THIS size (!?) there shouldn't be any trouble with zip codes. The only problem would be to add a helper or two to handle the load. If any mail is being re-directed for any reason (other than lack of postage) that is not OK.

30. Georeg Bush. The White House. It will be delivered.
Santa Clause North Pole. Yes Virginia. it will be delivered. :)

They need to speak with the Post Master and file a criminal complaint with the Postal Police. This could be just another Bush Whacker abusing a position of public trust.

around the time when soldiers were getting attacked here and there.

Our delivery guy was being an anal asshat. But this sounds deliberate. Shame on them.
