DailyKos gets 3.8 million visitors a week?
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/thenewswire/archive/2005/08/ratings-for-political-blo_5726.html

Just read that on Huffington post. That boggles the mind. That's probably as many weekly viewers as Fox gets, or not that far off the mark is it(I could be wrong about that)?

What I've always been curious about is why Kos became the premiere liberal blog. I love it and visit it frequently every single day. But content-wise it's not drastically different than say Atrios or Talkingpointsmemo or any number of other blogs. So I'm curious what everyones take is as to why Dailykos is and has become so huge?

Personally speaking I really like Markos's writing style. He doesn't over-pontificate or over analyze like Josh Marshall tends to, but he provides a little more content and context than someone like Atrios who tends to be more sarcastic and pithy. And it's not just one guy posting entries, but yet the other people who write for the site tend towards the same writing style and viewpoint so it's not jarring or out of place to read their entries.

Curious as to everyone's opinion on this.

1. It is addictive
not unlike here. Some say that the ability for posters to make their own "subblogs" makes the site sticky and brings other people to Kos.

Nice to see another Kossack!

3. Kos in on TV a lot (C-Span and also in the UK).
Maybe he's just more well known thus more interest in the site. He's a face to go with the blog.

4. Kos has the right ratio of news/commentary
I love Atrios but he's an infrequent commenter. Kos provides a great range of commentaries on all kinds of subjects. And it seems there's always a new post.

6. Unbelievable volume.
Where else can you go and hear a guy like reddhedd (?) who was a state prosecuter talk about Fitzgerald. Other posters have mentioned they were on Senate and House staffs. All of the posters are bright but some of them are positioned to get unique perspectives.
PS He's the one who said it should be referred to as Traitorgate and not Plamegate.

Look at the exchange between reddhedd and knowthings on this thread:

No wonder so many sites want posters.
I'd love to know how many visitors go to the WaPo boards - I asked once and they said they were too busy to look at it.

7. Atrios says Kos sold his soul to satan for that status
I like Kos, hell, I like all the left leaning blogs. God damn near the only sources left for a fair amount of truth.
