Masses....Only about 35 to 40% actually "Get it" that the Dems stand for Benevolence and Altruism.....The Common Good.

The rest are confused.

Roughly 45% believe in the Conservative mantra cause it offers a no brainer...just listen to Hannity/Falwell/Rush/Pat/Savage....its so easy. Following is so much safer and easier than THINKING.

This 45%, many of them want to be undereducated and thereby, ignorant. So simple, No thinking....just listen to Rush, FOX, etc. They all saying the same thing, it must be true.

The Dems prob is overcoming the logjam of Ignorance out there...

Books ain't gonna do it...whothehellreads these days? Peeps too busy surviving and wanna just have a beer before the nx job.....

The Dems message should come in easy to digest steps...with a reward thrown in. Make it meaningful to be a DEM....Luaus even....

In the ole days, Candidates from Hawaii threw stew and rice Luaus, complete with music and hula dancers. Of course the candidate gets the mike for his speil and all are happy. Message gets out and bellies are full.

The Dems have a long way to go in learning how to attract and retain believers who would really go and vote.

Come, we go get the pig....fire wood.

Edited on Tue Aug-16-05 08:32 PM by chaumont58
The DLCers sure as shit confuse the issue, in my mind. I am uncompromisingly against the god damn Iraqi War. To me, only a fuckin' fool could have thought Iraq could in any way be a threat to the US. Only a god damn fool. The only way I can explain the Dem senators voting for the War resolution was that they had polling data that told them most voters believed chimpie. Its also possible that they didn't believe chimpie would be foolish enough to actually go to war. I didn't. Right up to the deadline, I thought chimpie was bluffing.
But, regarding the Dems problems with voters, so many large changes in the structure of American society have taken place in the last 40 years, and most of the changes are identified with Dems. Civil Rights, voting rights, the sexual revolution, women's rights, and now, gay rights. There are a lot of beer drinking, fat bellied, white males that will never get used to the changes. To be crude, there are still a lot of people who still want to call a spade a nigger.

18. Cindy has balls!
Just like Dean. We need leaders who will stand up and fight. Leaders who do not back down and cower every time some GOPER gets upset. When Durbin apologized I knew we had a huge problem. They say libs are wimps, we act like wimps, not us, but our politicians, only a handful are willing to tell it like it is.

4. How sweet to be an Idiot
How sweet to be an Idiot
As harmless as a cloud
Too small to hide the sun
Almost poking fun
At the warm but insecure untidy crowd.

How sweet to be an idiot
And dip my brain in joy
Children laughing at my back
With no fear of attack
As much retaliation as a toy
How sweet to be an idiot.
How sweet...

I tiptoe down the street
Smile at everyone I meet.

But suddenly a scream
Smashes through my dream
Fee fi fo fum
I smell the blood of an asylum
Hey you, you're such a pedant
You got as much brain as a dead ant
As much inagination as a caravan site!

But I still love you, still love you, oooh
How swee-ee-eet to be an idiot
How sweet
How sweeeeet
How sweeeeeeeet......

But I think Bush fired him too. Bush isn't going to do a damned thing the Constitution tells him to do. You can't make him! You can't make him! It's the Our Poor Stupid Forefathers Syndrome that frequently afflicts the Republicans.

7. The problem is that Dem's are afraid to use the best tools at their
disposal. The GOP GOT a lot of its support by appealing to fear, prejudice, low self-esteem, powerlessness, and bravado. I've long thought that the Dems should be screaming from the rooftops about right-wing intellectuals, the "noble lie," etc., and how stupid the Republican elite think their own constituency is. Part of the reason freepers are so wiggy, and hate liberals so much, is that, deep inside, they're afraid of being judged by people who they really feel may be more socially conscious, intelligent, fashionable, creative, open-minded and worldly than they are. There would be no reason to consistently cite espresso, sushi, European goods, etc., in politics, unless they were afraid of it. I'm not even saying these things are true -- I'm just saying that that's what freepers fear.

If they only knew that it was, largely, their own shepherds who found them to be a backward, easily led, superstitious, fearful pack of elementary schoolers who need to be lied to, then it might hit a nerve. Of course, they don't know it, because they only listen to right-wing noise. But, do you EVER see our Dem leaders talk about this? Hell no. It has no foothold, on the national stage, while "Dems are babykillers," and "Liberals hate America," is practically on coffee cups.

9. America has a problem bigger than this
when Rush Limbaugh commands the attention and loyalty of 20 million Americans. There are people so far off the scale of reasonable and internment for the purposes of "de-Nazification" beging to seem reasonable.

Even if we get control of the government back in teh hands of reasonable Americans, what the hell are we ever going to do with these people. If they loss the Congress and the White House, low long would it take before they began to turn violent?

These people scare the freekin'bejezus out of me. and I don't know what we can do about them.

12.  Dems stand for Benevolence and Altruism
Not really. I am a born and raised person from South Arkansas.
I grew up with everything controlled by the Democrats. Conservative Democrats. We need to stop confusing the Democrats with liberalism.
It is the liberals that stand for Benevolence and Altruism. It was the liberals that walked in the protest marches and beaten by the conservative democrats. It was liberals that died at the hands of the conservative Democrat KKK members. The liberals for a short time got control of the Democrat party. The liberals lost it before Clinton was elected.
As a resident of Arkansas, I can say Clinton was not a liberal. He did everything he could to help big business and the Walton's

I am hoping that the Democrats will finally decide to stop trying to out conservative the Republicans. They have been trying to be more conservative and it is killing the Americans.

I am proud to be a Liberal and Proud to be a Jesus Christian. Most of the people claiming to be Christians do not believe in Jesus, otherwise they would be doing what Jesus said to do.

...not when they think it's okay for someone to knock down a bunch of crosses at Camp Casey. Oh, well--I've been suspecting that they aren't real Christians for awhile. Not when they come to my casino & drink and gamble. Hey, "Fundies"--I thought drinking & gambling were sins!

Hypocrites.

I am an atheist. The current batch of conservative christians are the face of christianity that I have known all my life. The only difference between a 1960 fundie and a 2005 fundie, is the 2005 fundie has access to power, and one of his is president of the United States.

16. Call me crazy, but ...
I think the repukes know exactly how to get their votes. It's no accident that they don't fund education. The dumbing down of America has proven to be a big bonus for the republican party.

Think of it - how many times do you hear freepers talk about liberals as "intellectual elite" and make it sound as though it's a bad thing? That's the same kinda crap you heard in fifth grade from the stupid kids in school - the dumb kids always hated those brainy kids.

The republican party has purposely dumbed down America by not funding education, and programs for the poor, because it's what helps them in the voting booth. It's easier to use fear of terrorist attacks, gays, illegal immigrants, etc... when your audience can't think for themselves.

26. Here's the Democrat's problem....
I've said this almost ad nauseum, but I'll say it again. The Democratic Party failed to learn one valuable lesson that the Repugs learned during the 90's: how to get your message out at a time when you don't have the Rose Garden as your backdrop.

The Contract On America (ooops...make that "With"!!) was a failed document policy-wise, because it was bad for America. But strategically, it was brilliant, because it allowed the Repugs to say "this is what we will do if you give us back control of Congress."

Since 2001, the Dems have failed to come up their equivalent of the Contract With America.
