Local pundit tries to explain away oil prices
saying they hadn't kept up with inflation anyway.

He figured with demand on the rise that we'd be looking back next year at these prices, and wishing they were this low.

His theory would make everyone else's excuse bogus. Never mind overuse, supply issues, burning refineries or broken rigs. It's just inflation catching up.

God, I hope he's wrong.

Considering his Conservative bent, he might also be trying to find reasons why it's not Bush's fault.

Do you see any validity to his thoughts?

3. Oh, yeah.
Can you imagine how loud they would be screaming if gas prices had gotten this high when Clinton was in office? They wouldn't give any slack for the "adjusted for inflation" figures, either.

5. Heard it yesterday
On Rush- Clinton allowed the tree-huggers (I guess that's us) to stop oil drilling and refinery building in the US because of pollution. And something about Clinton's penis I didn't catch.

12. Someone here was on that kick too
that there hadn't been a new refinery in 29 years. Sounds a wee bit before Clinton. Through a few Repubs as well. Hmm. Still Clinton's fault though.

4. There is a possibility
that there isn't much more oil underground. The oil that is left is the kind that needs a lot done to it before we can use it.

This fact is not Bush's fault.

It is Bush's fault that he hasn't planned wisely for this eventuality.

(1) He pushed through legislation that gives tax breaks to SUVs and trucks, which use lots of oil/gasoline.

(2) Bush wasted billions and billions of dollars in the war in Iraq in hopes of controlling their oil and that of the other middle East nations. It looks like Bush isn't going to succeed there.

(3) Bush has alienated Chavez of Venezuela (4th largest supplier of U.S. oil) who will boycott the U.S. the first chance he gets. Meanwhile, the Chinese are all over Venezuela.

(4) The Chinese are making deals all over Africa to get oil there as well. As far as I know, the U.S. is way behind China in that effort.

(5) India and China and Russia are making oil deals as we speak.

I think it's possible that Bush and the Neo Cons may be responsible for moving the U.S. from the world's only superpower to a nation in really big trouble.

9. Lemme guess: then he listed the price of gas in European countries
or some of his lackey callers did.

Without mentioning how much the gas taxes were in the various countries..

11. He just kept saying it wasn't keeping up with inflation
That if it appeared that it had been, that was just gas tax making it appear that gas was going up more than it was.

Aha! Taxes! Liberals! All their fault!
