Proof my LTTE on Bush's pledge to fire the Plame leaker
Thanks. This is my response to the letter below, thanks to Media Matters for having the dated quotes on their website:

Those Republicans certainly have a selective memory in regards to the Bush Administration and the pledge to fire the Valerie Plame leaker. "Misquoted Bush" picked a quote from 2004 to indicate Bush had not flip-flopped. However, if you go back to right after the treasonous leak occurred, you get this quote from Sept. 29, 2003, "If anyone in this administration was involved in it , they would no longer be in this administration." No qualifications about breaking the law there. The very next day, you get the following quote, "take appropriate action," against "anybody in my administration who leaked classified information." Again, no qualifications about breaking the law. What size flip-flops does the president take?

here is the original, which was in response to my "Rove in Doghouse"

Misquoted Bush

In response to “Rove in Doghouse,” you conveniently misquoted what President Bush said in October 2004. What he said was, “If any member of my administration is found to have committed any crime in leaking the information about the undercover CIA agent, they will be removed from the administration.” Since Rove has hardly been accused of committing a crime in this matter, Bush has not changed his mind on the matter. You liberals will do anything to discredit the President. You should have been so almighty when Bill Clinton polluted the Oval Office

1. Well, you don't "take" a shoe size,
so it should be, What size flip flops does the president WEAR.

Other than that, it's great!! :hi:

Good luck getting it published. I didn't click on the link, where are you?

4. It's a free weekly and allows anonymous submission
It only asks for your town and state... so, I submit 4-5 a week under different towns.

It does have very wide circulation in eastern Connecticut, though.

5. I might clean up the first sentence just a bit
First I would use some Republicans instead of Those Republicans - just because if we want to convert readers who may consider themselves Republicans to our way of thinking the worst thing to do is to put them on the defensive. If they feel as if they're being attacked they'll block out the logic of the rest of the letter. I might even take out Republican altogether and make it "some people" - then a reader might think "yeah, some people do have a very selective memory when it comes to this". They can look at it more objectively that way. So the first sentence might read something like:

Some people certainly have a selective memory in regard to President Bush's pledge to fire the Valerie Plame leaker.

It also puts the onus on Bush himself rather than the administration, after all it was Bush who made the pledge so it's his responsibility. I might also add President before Bush, even though I personally don't believe he deserves the title, it makes the letter seem less partisan and more like just plain common-sense to the typical reader who we're trying to influence. I always think it's best to not make it into a fight with the right-wing nut jobs and more about trying to influence the uninformed reader - which is ultimately what we want to do.

Anyway - I love the letter and hope you get it published. Please let us know if you do!

6. will do
I'm getting pretty good at getting at least 1 per week in there...

The guy I'm responding to mentions Clinton polluting the White House, so I figured I should say Bush. But, you are probably right.
