People like Larry Norther, James Dobson and the Freakers have some nasty, ugly ideas. Let's give them plenty of room to operate, and be handy with a great big microphone and a camera to catch the moment when their anti-American agendas come out.

That has always been the way I handle republican fundies. Beneath their faux surface of "compassionate Christianity" they are an angry scared bunch of lil people. To directly combat them gives them the fuel to demonize you, but I have found that when we sit back, give them enough rope to hang themselves, the "shit" rises to the top, so to speak and they are seen for what they are: bitter, angry, vindictive, elitist, dangerous, hate filled folks.

... Think of how "regular folk" (read non rw-fundy) responded to the Schiavo fiasco ... they recoiled in horror. The RW politicians that invested political capital in that womans tragedy have been back pedaling (or at least distancing themselves).

The members of the gym I use are generally political centrists (possibly slightly right of center), Larry's actions were met with disgust by the folk at the gym ... Up until this point they didn't know or care who Cindy sheehan was. Thanks Larry.
