Are things this bad for the movies/WTF
Edited on Wed Aug-17-05 01:47 PM by ls317
Its a damn shame that the movie studios are attempting to cash in on the tragic events from 9/11. Have things become that bad for the movie industry??

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Universal Pictures unveiled plans on Tuesday for a big-screen thriller about the September 11 attacks on America, becoming the third major studio to set its sights on a subject Hollywood initially bent over backward to avoid.

As America nears the fourth anniversary of the bloodiest attacks on its soil, filmmakers and TV producers are clamoring to dramatize events surrounding the suicide hijackings that killed nearly 3,000 people and ignited the U.S. war on terrorism.

In addition to films in the works at Universal and two rival studios, several new made-for-TV projects are expected to focus on what happened when Islamic militants crashed two jetliners into New York's World Trade Center, a third plane into the Pentagon and a fourth in Pennsylvania.

9. I certainly would :)
While I havent seen the Dukes of Hazzard, its just a silly action movie designed to make one smile. No substance, nothing to give one bad dreams at night.

Clearly, movies about 9/11 are going to be made. Just as there are many movies about Pearl Harbor, vietnam, the civil war etc. Thats just reality.

But personally, Im not ready to sit down and try to be entertained for 2 hours by a 9/11 docudrama.

A family member of mine bought me a 9/11 DVD news compilation. I've had it for a few years and started to watch it a couples times, but I ended up turning it off. Just too painful to subject myself to that again.

Maybe in a few years, I'll appreciate 9/11 movies like I appreciate WW II movies now. But IM not there yet.

3. Oliver Stone is making a 9/11 movie (about two cops at WTC, I think)
By the time HE's done with it, 9/11 will be Lyndon Johnson's fault!

5. huh?
historic tragedies have ALWAYS been movie subjects-

how many movies were made about the Titanic?
or about Pearl Harbor?
and so on...

I don't see what's wrong with making movies with 9/11-centered plots...?

6. To a degree
Yes movies have always been made about tragic events.. There was a bit of gap in time before those movies hit the screens.. Not 4 years later plus all the information was gathered on these events....
Its kinda hard to make a movie based on facts when they are not really being told..surrounding the event.

(see my post above)

No doubt that movies like this will be made, and proably SHOULD be made over time.

Personally, Im not ready for them yet. Buts just me.

i doubt that i'd go -although not from any lingering effects of the 9/11 "tragedy", since i didn't have any...i'm just not interested in being fed even more lies about it all- especially ua93. all draped in schlock patriotism.

"let's roll" ?
let's vomit is more like it.

14. And thats ok
Its not my place to dictate what others watch or even enjoy.

But I'll be on the sidelines

btw, I also agree with your thoughts about the force fed patriotism and other lies...

7. Who's going to play "Saddam Hussein?" After all, he was behind it.
:sarcasm:

At least that's what a near majority of the movie goers will be believing when they enter the theater.

But really, I wonder how factual this movie will be. It seems that UP will have a golden opportunity to set the record straight.

8. Exactly... it's the facts that will be distorted most likely,
frankly, if I were a family member of 9/11 victims I'd be having a canary right now. They still want questions answered. I think it's just par for the course the way things are being handled in this country.

Impatience. Income comes to mind also.

12. So just like that crappy show "over there", hollywood must tell us..
how awful it was and how to react.

This is overtly pathetic.

And do we see a single rwinger standing in the way of "evil holly-weird" on this subject? Hell no, because it's all about fear and propaganda.

I worked and slaved in hollywood for years. I saw the talented ones get sidelined and the bottom line money grubbers, who don't make films, but make movies of the week for the big screen, get promoted.

It's amazing. So these stupid fuck halfwits are now turning a nations tragedy in to profit. You know what? Fine, we are letting them, we deserve the object humiliation that capitalism has wrought. No class, no character, no decency.

Damn, at least hollywood, way back, waited till 1961 to make Tora tora tora.

colossal failure*.
