"Family Council" thanks Bush for calling a HALT to XXX internets

WASHINGTON, Aug. 17 /Christian Wire Service/-- The Family Research Council thanks President Bush for calling a halt to the '.XXX' domain. Patrick Trueman, FRC's senior legal counsel and former chief of the U.S. Department of Justice's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, released the following statement:

"Selling hard core pornography on the internet is a violation of federal obscenity law so the Bush Administration is right to oppose the '.XXX' domain. The Bush Administration should not, in any way, be seen to facilitate the porn industry which has been a plague on our society since the establishment of the internet. The '.XXX' domain proposal is an effort to pander to the porn industry and offers nothing but false hope to an American public which wants illegal pornographers prosecuted, not rewarded.

"The '.XXX' domain was never intended to force the porn industry to leave the '.com' domain, which has been a cash cow for pornographers. Indeed, any law attempting to force pornographers to relocate to '.XXX' would be constitutionally suspect and not likely to be effective. Instead, if the '.XXX' domain were established pornographers would keep their lucrative '.com' commercial sites and expand to even more sites on '.XXX, thus becoming even more of a menace to society. Pornography violates the dignity of the women and men involved, destroys marital bonds, and pollutes the minds of child and adult consumers.

"The Family Research Council supports Attorney General Gonzales' major new prosecution initiative against the porn industry, announced in May. We are confident of his determination and of his ultimate success. The pornographers, instead of expanding their presence on the internet, would be well advised to get out of business all together right now before they are called to court to answer for their crimes."

7. well, sure, you could filter XXX domains

but what about all the ones that DON'T go that route. There would no legal requirement for them to be in the XXX domain...would there? Could there? And just who decides what is XXX and what isn't? You know someone is going to get pissed that a nipple is shown on some website for breast cancer self exams and demand that it be rated XXX.

Just one more top level domain ... and one the most of the porn business would likely stay out of for exactly the reason you list.

for one. And, I believe many of them would not want to be so easily blocked by simple filters...as a matter of fact, based on local obscenity laws a state could too easily block ALL XXX...I don't think the porn guys/gals will go for that.

Of course if all porn was sent to one domain you'd be able to just block those sites. The world of the internet would be blissfully separated by content allowing adults to see what they CLEARLY WANT TO SEE and then others and children can just shut all of that out. I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to filter all of that porn spam based on this- the possibilities are endless. Finally a solution for everyone no? But of course it isn't about choice. They want to abolish anyone else's choice which isn't exactly like theirs. Bush is shamelessly computer illiterate but his opinion is valid on this? Puh-leeze. Instead of dealing with the issue that different strokes for different folks, you know humanity and our basic animal/sexual nature, they want to abolish that nature. What's next abolish non-procreative sex? What's to stop them? Scary naked people must be destroyed. :saracasm:

maybe. The whole concept of if they had another domain they would spread is so ignorant. There is no limit to the # of sites one can have so they can spread all over the dot-com universe as it is now. If porn providers who are under assault knew that the issue of content was not under attack in the XXX world but they could get raided and seized and whatever other fascist tactics DOJ has in store for them in the coming Theocracy wouldn't it be ok to be safe with a new domain? HBO shows boobies FoodTV or basic cable does not. One domains indecent can be another domains god-given right. As it stands now TV can be filtered and content can be completely blocked with V-Chips ratings and cable box lists and locks if only people used them. There would be a transitional time for .com sites to go to .xxx. Servers have for years had the ability to simply redirect traffic to another site from one address (the dot-com one in this case.) Throw in a pop-up reminder for their customers to change their bookmark and the transition is complete. If you are a porn fan, you would be aware of the change and adjust your surfing accordingly grateful that fundamentalists can't control what you do in your own home. Yet.

Clearly by fighting the new domain they reveal their agenda is not about preventing access to children or others offended but to abolish the content that they disagree with entirely. So they champion the activist President for giving the finger to the First Ammendment yet again. God bless America.

I just think the XXX domain would end up being a waste of time and resources. There is no need for it now...that is my only objection.
