A huge thank-you to Blueagave for the ice and gatorade he brought to the non-violence training last night. Hope to see more local Duers.

Here is the latest local news story

For now, staying awake is Camp Casey's only obstacle

Unlike the Iraq war protest they hoped to mirror in Texas, supporters of Chico's Camp Casey, on the grounds of a city park near First Street and The Esplanade, aren't rolling out sleeping bags and cooking stoves.
In fact, if they do, they'll probably be arrested.

The protest, in support of Vacaville resident Cindy Sheehan's peace vigil near President George Bush's Crawford, Texas, ranch, sprang up Saturday at Children's Playground. At its core are members of Chico's Peace and Justice Center, which protests war in general for an hour each Saturday on downtown street corners.

When members heard about Sheehan's protest, which began Aug. 6 and has attracted hundreds of supporters to Crawford, they decided to establish Camp Casey -- named for Sheehan's son, who was killed in Iraq in April 2004....

article continues with info on the complex issue of how to classify our camp...
also look for mention of our camp in an article that Time magazine will be doing...

off to bring supplies to the candlelight vigil

1. kick it up for Chico !
North Valley DUers - stop by and see what you can do to help "fed-up" keep this camp going. She is working her but off over here.

Simple supplies like water and ice are in short supply. This is our opportunity to support Cindy's mission without traveling to Texas, and at the same time turn locals onto alternative news sources.

Lots of people honking in support as they drive by. Let's give some ground support !
