That's me in picture #2 with the gray tee shirt and pony tail. :hi:

I remember you from Chimpy's Social Security lalapalooza in Westfield.

The picture of the old woman in the wheelchair is so touching. No one can say we are a bunch of protesting, dirty hippies!

3. Albuquerque Photos

I estimate that about 250 people showed up and lined the streets. We had many honks of approval and peace signs out car windows.

One guy got out of his car and started arguing with people. He said "You people don't know what it's like to lose someone in the twin towers." Someone holding a candle responded "Yes we do!" followed by a man shouting "Like Iraq had anything to do with 9/11!"

I think the guy had enough (plus he was holding up traffic) and he sped away.

Ex-Nebraskan here (who has been living in Europe for many years). Left the state long ago to escape the neo-con bible-thumping crap I grew up with. Can rarely bear even to speak to family members who still live there (in Lincoln & Syracuse) and in northern MO. 150 DEMONSTRATORS, over-all POSITIVE REACTION, local NEWS COVERAGE...IN NEBRASKA? Are you sure you weren't accidentally teleported to, say, Iowa or Colorado? There must be some mistake! We're talking hardcore, mouth-frothing, in-bred bushbot country. God bless you and the others for taking a public stand. An act of true bravery...:yourock:

The local newspaper in our blue city in a very red state has come through for us again! About 150 people joined us at the main vigil on the town square. The article is good and this gorgeous picture is given over 1/3 of the total area on the front page:

Senator Lugar?
Senator Bayh?
Representative Sodrel?

activism. It is beyond fantastic that 150 friends came to a small town vigil for peace AND I feel like I have really scored when the event gets to the media. The HT has 100,000 readers AND is read by our reps in the state and national capitals.

44. Wilmington Delaware - Michael Berg attends Anti-War Rally -
Edited on Thu Aug-18-05 08:50 AM by cyberpj
No photos of vigils yet but here's an article and some photos of a Peace rally held in downtown Wilmington Weds afternoon. Note: Pacem in Terris says there were many more than "a dozen" plus, many many signatures from passers-by on the banner to be sent to Cindy.

"WILMINGTON -- Holding signs reading "The first casualty of war is truth" and "We support Camp Casey in Crawford" about a dozen people demonstrated against the war in Iraq on Wednesday afternoon in Rodney Square.
(snip)
In Wilmington, passers-by were encouraged to sign a banner that will be sent to Sheehan.
(snip)
Attending was Michael Berg, the father of a 26-year-old West Chester, Pa., resident whose videotaped beheading by terrorists in 2004 shocked the world.
(snip)
"I came out to support Cindy Sheehan," said Michael Berg, who recently moved to Wilmington from Pennsylvania. "I know how she feels."

It was small, symbolic, and meaningful. The candle and our Flag was placed in our front yard so those walking or driving could view and pay tribute. At the homepage, click on the photo for the text and the other photos of this quiet vigil.

Looked like about 300 people to me, and drivers passing by on busy Reston Parkway were very enthusiastic. Lots of honking, shouts from cars like "Bush sucks!" The vigil-keepers were very tasteful and quiet, but happy about the response.

What a moving and hope-renewing photo album. If this hasn't put the fear of God in the *blivet yet, it soon will. The great heartland is slowly beginning to speak out. This wasn't just the "libbrul" bastions on both coasts--this was the heartland, home to the great "SILENT MAJORITY"...:applause:

To much to do lately.

My daughter pegged Mark Moses immediately. 16 years old, she was in 7th heaven chatting with him. I scored a big hug and kiss from Ed Begley! Woo hoo! Missed you too - or did I? Were you in the Christmas parade?

66. Camp Casey: photos from a place of peace
Hi, all!

I've been very active in the very-popular, very-active website flickr.com. There are several progressive, Democrat, anti Bush/Blair and pro-peace groups. I'm connected with all of them, and am an admin of two of the major ones. Now I've just set up a new group which I'd like to ask anybody and everybody who advocates peace to join:

Camp Casey: photos from a place of peace

"Camp Casey: photos from a place of peace" will serve as the Internet's central repository for any and all photos from the peace vigil initiated by Cindy Sheehan at "Camp Casey," the growing crowd of peace activists gathered at the Bush Ranch in Crawford, Texas.

We've got over 200 photos from the vigils already, and are very quickly gaining more people and more photos.

Please enlist anybody and everybody you can from Camp Casey to post photos from the vigil. To join flickr is free, and you can post 200 photos per account for free. So please, get everybody you can to join us, take and post photos, and share news and experiences. Photos of the counter-protestors are also appropriate and encouraged.

We also welcome photos from vigils elsewhere, as long as they are anti-war, pro-peace, and support Cindy Sheehan's work.

Not welcome in this particular group: pro-war, anti-peace activists. If you intend to advocate war, disparage Cindy Sheehan or other peace protestors, or generally intend to conflict with or disagree with our goals, you'll have to go to a "free speech zone" -- i.e., somewhere else. Troublemakers will be kicked and banned without any trace of hesitation or remorse.

http://www.flickr.com/groups/campcasey/

Please, spread the word about this group, encourage OTHERS to spread the word, and let's make it a big thing.

This was actually a support rally that happened on Monday the 15th of August. We had a candle-light vigil last night, and I will try to get those pictures also.

Record-Eagle photo
Paul Wallace of Traverse City and Bill Childs of East Tawas hold one of many signs that greeted motorists from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday near the busy Grandview Parkway and Division intersection. "Why did I come all this way? Because I don’t believe in this war," Childs said. The demonstration was organized by the local Mideast: Just Peace group. About 50-60 anti-Iraq War demonstrators showed up to show their support of Cindy Sheehan, who refuses to leave the road leading to President George Bush’s Texas ranch until he gives her some answers about the war in Iraq where her son was killed.

Here we are after the lighting of candles, singing of songs, reciting of a forgiveness litany, and silent prayer. If you recall, it was at Ft. Lewis in our town that Cindy met with Bush after her son's death:

People responded enthusiastically to DUers photos from Camp Casey. Each person took home copies of Copies of Will Pitt's "Cindy's Victory" article, Gatorboy's TOONS, and DU's url:

Even the pups got in on it:

We had drummers, trumpets, violins, and singing:

Here are people waiting to begin the silent march to the vigil, outside the Princeton Public Library. A standing-room-only crowd of over 200 were inside the library auditorium at this time, watching a presentation of the "Before You Enlist" DVD ( http://www.beforeyouenlist.org / ) Sue Niederer, a Gold Star Mother who was handcuffed and ejected from a local Laura Bush event in 2004 also spoke.

Here is a short, furry Cindy supporter. Extra points for creative use of small binder clips!

After the march and silent vigil, the singing in the park began (this one is "Amazing Grace").

As the crowd dispersed, some deposited their still-burning candles to form a small memorial.....

Currently posted on the Grand Lake Theater Marquee on a very busy corner in Oakland, CA. There were about 350 vigil attendees at this location

This is just around the corner, where another 125 or so were gathered. We wanted wide neighborhood coverage. Lots of honks...only one young jerk in a giant SUV called us pussies.
