Did your vigil make the local news??? Check in here!
2 full minutes of coverage on local fox channel here in indy!

Impressive! The last 10 seconds were about those who oppose us (none of which were actually there, it was coverage from Crawford). Ha!

Edited on Wed Aug-17-05 10:27 PM by KzooDem
Included some background information on Cindy. CORRECTLY stated the number of people attending as "more than 300".

Interviewed an Army vet just home from Iraq, a woman whose son is there now, and a woman whose nephew is there as well. All spoke against the war or against Bush.

They did interview one Iraqi vet at his home who said going into Iraq was the right thing, but he did not make any remarks against the protest or against Cindy.

20. Covered by all local stations. CBS affiliate link here:
We had almost 20 vigils in the Twin Cities. I was at the largest one -- 737 registered but they estimated 400. It was probably somewhere in the middle.

This segment is very comprehensive. The tide has turned, baby!:woohoo:

23. Yes, yes, yes!
In New Haven, CT, on a classic New England green, we made news on both local stations which were just run at 10 pm and 11 pm. I was filmed (much to my chagrin!) and then separately interviewed by a reporter from the New Haven Register. The crowd was between 200-300 and maybe even more. There was no violence, no counter protest, no cars flying by with shouts or obsenities. Both stories were shown at the top of the hour and they offered next to nothing from the "other" side. Will send newspaper account when I receive it. I was interviewed for approximately 10-15 min and he wrote all my statements exactly as I said them onto the legal pad he was carrying.

It was a night of peace, brother/sisterhood and camaraderie. I sent a report to Move-on along with the photos I took.

War is not, nor has it ever been, the answer. Tonight, we behaved as one.

26. All three local channels in Reno, NV
With nary a negative spin, although they did counter it with interviews from members of the local Repug party (If you're gonna' win a war, you have to support authority no matter what, blah, blah, blah). Great coverage overall--caught the singing, the signs, the vets that were there. Interviewed a POW/MIA vet--he was great!

One channel noted an on line poll they conducted: send more troops-21%; keep troop level same-22%; pull troops out 52%

Another reporter explained twice how vigils such as these were occurring in over 14,000 cities nationwide. Very thorough and respectfully presented.

Overall, I was pleased with the coverage. It was well over three minutes and the footage was great.

27. It did in a freeperish sort of way.
They interviewed a couple of vigil people asking why they supported Cindy Sheehan. Of course they said to bring the troops back from Iraq. Then they went to the local VFW hall (not sure I have that right) and interviewed a guy who was half shot, who said, "We can't leave until the job is finished."

I wanted the reporter to ask what the H is the job? But instead he went on to say that it was important to support the troops and the war on terror. Blah!!!!

on the ABC and CBS affiliates, respectively. Down at the SB Courthouse the numbers were reported as "hundreds" and "about 300," so there was a good turnout! I think both SLO and SM had vigils -- good for them!

VIRGINIA BEACH — There were no angry speeches. No shouting. Just the soft flicker of hand held candles illuminating faces, young and old.

Except for some anti-war sentiments scrawled on a few signs, it was hard to tell why about 200 people had gathered in vigil Wednesday night at Town Center. That is until the first soft voice in song cut through the din of conversation and laughter like a bullet.

“All we are saaaaying, is give peace a chance….”

“Twenty-four kids died this week” fighting for the U.S. in Iraq, said Chris Permenter, 17, a senior at Cape Henry Collegiate School in Virginia Beach who came with several classmates. “They could have been any one of us.”

To bad the TV stations were more interested in those who were against it. Channel 10 actually went to a VFW in Norfolk to find dissent. Also only one station has a write up on it no video Channel 3 and it is lame.

Marchers connect with mom's vigil

Protesters around region gather to support Cindy Sheehan, whose son died serving in Iraq

By DANIELLE T. FURFARO, Staff writer
First published: Thursday, August 18, 2005

ALBANY -- The blocks-long procession of protesters walked slowly and silently down Madison Avenue on Wednesday night, heads bowed and hands shielding the flames of small white candles, remaining quiet even when an occasional heckler shouted angrily.
The more than 400 people who gathered at Washington Park and then marched to the Empire State Plaza were among hundreds of thousands who gathered around the country Wednesday evening to show their support for Cindy Sheehan, the mother of a soldier killed in Iraq who has been holding her own vigil outside President Bush's Texas ranch. Sheehan, who says U.S. troops should be pulled out of Iraq, wants Bush to explain why her son, Casey, had to die.

"We get up every morning, listen to the news and hear how many were killed the day before and we worry like crazy," said Michael Gecewicz of Albany. His son Justin, a Marine, has already seen combat in Afghanistan and is scheduled to be deployed to Iraq.

"This is terror for the military families," Gecewicz said.

Those who attended the Albany event, organized by MoveOn.org and various anti-war groups, came from all walks of life. There were ex-military men who had served in Vietnam, mothers whose children are serving in Iraq, and citizens who said they have simply had enough of the "lies and deception" of the Bush administration.
