2 Fundie Pro-lifers W/ Dead Fetus Sign And A Freeper Invade Vigil (Graphic)
Edited on Wed Aug-17-05 11:44 PM by DistressedAmerican
This is a second post on the events tonight in Saratoga and Albany NY. It discusses the meager opposition that arrived and how they were dealt with in a positive and non-confrontational manner.

The first post has all the sweet shots and highlights. This is definitely the lowlights.

Here is the first one:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x4384416

The rally was great but had some unwanted guests. When I arrived we found an infamous local Pro-War freep there standing in front of everyone with his lone sign. Apparently he is known as the Colonel by the local peace activists. Makes the scene regularly.

He was keeping it pretty cool. He was clearly unhappy. But, "Moms For Peace", etc. he could deal with. He nearly lost it when we arrived with these two.

He started to rant and mumble a lot. Everyone there was great through out. Most ignored him completely. Any one that engaged him at all said things like "please have a nice evening".

Meanwhile he ranted away. The local Fox news affiliate showed up. There were hundreds of anti-war protesters and they interview no one but The Colonel. Fair And Balanced!

I can't wait to see the footage. More repug spin I'm sure. Hopefully they post it:

http://www.fox23news.com/

Stay tuned. Should edit down quite nicely.

While he was interviewed on the other side of the crowd he just kept glaring at me and Malta Blue with our signs. He was fuming. I made sure to grin nice and wide. It was clear that he thought we were the very embodiment of everything wrong with America.

I waved a friendly hello. It sent him off the deep end. mid-interview he comes marching over in front of us, pointing at us and going off about no respect for the troops or the greatest president this country has ever had, blah, blah, blah.

(Malta Blue Can Fill You In On A Previous Chance Encounter She Had With This guy At The Gorcery Story)

As soon as his interview was over (as far as I saw never even once taking a shot of the vigil and I was watching) he announced in a totally defeated voice to us all that he was sorry he could not stick around.

He had to attend a classical music concert. Nice comittment Colonel...

We all bid him good night. He kept going off the whole way across the street, stopped on the opposite corner and ranted for a minute or two as loud as he could muster that nobody supports the troops these days. And with that he receded into the night and was gone.

Them came the really ugly bit. There happened to be a big Anti-Choice rally happening in town as well. I am a little unclear who or where. A Husband and wife decided to show up and try to crash the party with a dead fetus sign that was larger than anything at the vigil.

http://www.seedsofdoubt.com/distressedamerican/images/graphics/Saratoga8jpg

At first several folks approached him and told him to leave. There were many young children in the crowd and needless to say the parents were upset about it. We informed him that we had a permit to hold a peace rally on that spot and that his permit was for another location etc. He simply refused to leave.

So, rather than allow him to "hijack our thread" as it were, I took my biggest sign and my 6 foot 4 inches and blocked out the giant fetus. I stood with my back to him and refused to engage him despite his talking to me from behind about the "war in the wombs of America".

I stood there like that and he didn't seem to know what to do. He just stood there with his sign 85% blocked out. As soon as people realized what I was up too, a large group of those attending the vigil joined in, raising their signs to cover both sides of their sign. He tried moving to the left a bit and then back. Since there was basically a wall of folks on his front and back that was his only axis to move in. As he shifted we moved with him. None of us spoke to or challenged the man. Just covered up that disgusting and tragically misplaced sign.

Eventually he announced that he was crossing the street. I made sure to provide a friendly escort to make sure he got there OK. Someone had given me a very attractive hand drawn sign with a dove and the word Peace. It was in a tall stick and just prefect to get the job done. Got some nice supportive honks while crossing back Dove in hand.

His wife immediately took the sign and crossed back into our vigil. At that time she was met by the police. They removed her from the group and spoke to her. Eventually she was allowed to stand across the street. But by that point we were marching and they were history.

Quick moral after all that story. Peaceful protest usually means enduring all sorts of provocations. The correct response to those provocations is non-confrontation. They will rant and rave. They will call you all manner of nasty things. They will invade your space. Do not react. Allow the authorities to deal with trouble. Be sure to report trouble so that they can act.

A calm head completely nullified these 3 messed up folks.

38. Abortion is the only wrong,
not war or torture, to these people. By being against abortion they are "pro life" no matter how many people die by violent means by the people they support. It's called hypocrisy.

48. How ironic that they stand there with a sign of a fetus in pieces
There are lots of grown developed CHILDREN in Iraq currently who have been blown to pieces--lots of adults from this country and that one who have had appendages and limbs severed.

But what the hell does abortion have to do with the war in Iraq and bush's lies getting us there?

IDIOTS!

59. That was not an aborted fetus...
Either that or it was an emergency procedure to save a woman's life.

That was a late miscarriage.

I am utterly disgusted with these people who purposefully lie to and mislead the undereducated. It is reprehensible that they would play on people's emotions by lying to them about what an abortion is.

Despicable.

63. Sad, but true to these freaks.
My sister is one of them. No amount of reason or fact can blind her to the cornerstone of her belief: abortion is killing babies.

The war? She doesn't follow that too much. Her kids are 9 and 7, and as far as I know, she doesn't know anyone in the service at all. No, what matters to her is abortion; nothing else. It is the single political issue. Period. There is no reasoning with her black and white, one sided argument. If you attempt it, she'll try briefly to tell you that you are wrong - but if you keep it up, she'll ultimately plaster a twitchy smile on her face, clasp her hands in prayer and stare at you, not speaking.

Needless to say, she voted for * in both of the previous elections. Also needless to say, I waste as little of my time as possible with her.

They would oppose the war. The war kills unborn babies every day, and all the depleted uranium released into the air creates many birth defects for unborn babies.

Besides, there are fetuses and then there are fetuses. We abort the fetuses over there, so we don't have to abort the fetuses here.

been able to remain calm. Don't those IDIOTS realize what the protesting tonight was all about? Are they that spaced out that they don't realize people were out protesting the DEATHS of thousands of innocnet people that have been victimized in this war? Not counting the many more thousands of innocents with severed limbs etc..

Too bad you did not have pictures of the THOUSANDS of children world wide who have lost their lives and or futures due to birth defects left that occur from contamination etc and all due to idiotic greedy power hungry neandathrals war mongers sitting safely behind armed secret service men, I would have shoved those pictures in thier faces!

Sick, just sick people.

I can't tell you how many times I have tried to show such pictures to Repubs lately, they all turn away and will not look further as soon as they realize the content...cowards...and yet they have no trouble saying this war is just..

19. I think it is about control
If these people are Christian and religion they should know that women and men should be equal in a marriage which includes the reproductive rights. If I'm not ready yet for children I should have the right to BC pills and the like. If I want to work I should be able to.

It's definitely about control of women and their sexuality, going back to the days when marriage was a business transaction between two men: one buying a wife and the other selling a daughter.

I'm surprised these people haven't taken up female genital mutilation to make sure their property (a.k.a., womenfolk) only have sex when the men allow them to. But I probably shouldn't give them ideas.

Being nice to people is the best way. They want you to be angry with them. And I wonder how the guy would react to a photo of an Iraqi child hurt? Hmm.... Someone should have a photo to show them of an Iraqi child hurting physically to them and show these people this is what they support. The killing and shedding of innocent blood (a deadly sin by the way).

Seriously, folks... you are doing such a great job, and so nice to hear all of it, the good, the bad and the ugly... the freeptards are losing heart and breaking rank; we're startin' to smoke 'em out and get 'em runnin', to borrow a phrase from a gibbering idiot...

33. The Colonel?
Edited on Thu Aug-18-05 07:44 AM by malta blue
One day, my little and I were at the local grocery and he approached us as we were putting our purchases in the trunk. He apparently did not like the bumper stickers on my car (Honk if you hate Bush, Stop Mad Cowboy Disease, etc). He told me that I was disrespectful to the "best president this nation has ever had".

Well, since I was with the schmoo, I decided not to be baited by him, and merely informed him that I felt the pResident was a "thug". He went on and on about how I was misguided, a crazy leftist, etc. All this in front of my kid. When he finally got tired (which I now know is usually quickly, judging from last night's "gotta go to my concert" speech) and started to put his purchases into his SUV, my little pointed out "Mister, no one needs a car that big". He stomped his feet and called us "disprespectful youth".

When we got to the rally, he looked vaguely familiar to me, but when he started his "best president" blah blah blah crap, I knew it was HIM, "the big car man" to quite the schmoo.

That pic of you, and the expression on your face is marvelous.

52. I guess those anti-choicers want to make sure there are plenty of soldiers
in the future to help them fight their oil wars, holy wars, or whatever their reason for war is at the time.

Maybe that's why they showed up at a peace vigil?

54. You hit a sore spot when you 'attack' the War Prez
Truth be told, these people are not "Pro-War". These people are blindly "Pro-Bush". If Bush held a press conference tomorrow and gave a grand speech saying "I am against all wars. The killing needs to stop. We will start drawing down our troops at the end of the month." You can bet your sweet ass that these people would be demonstrating with "Stop The Killing, No More War!" within minutes.

58. Fetus sign blocking
also happened at the Kerry rally in Philadelphia last fall. A single protesting guy stood there beside a tractor-trailor truck for the longest time and didn't realize that folks on top of it were using their signs to cover his. As he walked along, everybody saw what was happening and got in on the blocking, doing a fair job of it even as the guy was moving for about half a block. BF and I watched from across the crowd, very amused.

Not since that rally, in fact, have I felt so happy to be with a group of like-minded people until last night at the Peace Vigil.

He had to attend a classical music concert. Nice comittment Colonel...

Heh, well he has to live his life too, I guess.

Me, I found it hard to bend like a willow last night when I heard one of our only two peace-haters who yelled from cars, but I prevailed over my smart mouth and kept it shut. :)

Well done last night, DistressedAmerican. Thanks for your story.

60. Excellent advice. . .
Distressed, and all your strategies last night were awesome.

I have one suggestion for next pro-lifer attack:

Cover their aborted fetus poster with one of GI crying as he carries a dead Iraqi child.
(saw it posted somewhere on this blog)

handled them so well.

It's fuckwads like them that have caused serious emotional stress and shame to many women that have had abortions. I am a pacifist, but it would have been very tempting for me to run them over with my car.

Thank you for caring DA and for sticking up for those that can't use their voices. It means the world.

64. If they're so concerned about abortion...
Why not work towards a world where no one would ever want one but still had the choice to if they did?

Everybody wins. Then again, I'm talking about a guy who holds up a picture of a dead fetus at an anti-war rally...
